Hello James Dean experts out there,

I am new to this forum and I am looking for your help. I just recently acquired the attached James Dean autograph on an old piece of paper (cut out, with stains). The dedication "my very best" as well as the autograph is written in light blue ink.

The previous owner is a private collector who bought complete autograph collections and also chases VIPs for autographs himself.

On the reverse side of the autograph there is a small pencil note "W. Albers / Mai 1955  Theatre - Kaliformien  Persönlich" (German language; indicating that it was personally collected in a theatre in California by Mr. W. Albers in May 1955). The lenght of the signature is 11cm/4 inches.

Has anybody seen this autograph before? Any ideas about its provenance? What do you think - is it an authentic James Dean signature? Would anybody dare to estimate its value?

Any feedback is highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards
Markus

I'm no expert but I will take a peek later tonight or tomorrow.

Hello Eric,

thank you so much in advance - I am grateful for any kind of help.

Have a nice evening
Markus

Good evening everybody!

Would anyone of you have an opinion or comment on the James Dean? I am just so curious...

Thanks a million times in advance...

 Best regards

Markus

Hi Markus,

I need to take a better look but I do not disqualify it. I am sorry - very busy here. :( I will look again when I have the time. I am handling a batch of merchandise that came in and have my hands full.

Best wishes,

Eric :-)

Hello Eric,

oh, I see - so good luck with your merchandising stuff. And many thanks in advance for taking the time (whenever possible). I appreciate it.

Have a happy day and a great weekend!

Best regards
Markus

Considering the car he was to be driving during these days one must be very skeptical but it appears worthy of a second look.

If this comes from the same source as the "Kennedy" I would be very wary.

Hello Eric,

oh - did you change your opinion?

Hhmmm. Right after your first positive response I started my reply but could not finish...

Now I am confused. I guess the source is different from the JFK source...

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Eric,

thank you so much for your positive evaluation!!! I am quite relieved to read your kind answer.

Honestly, I had the same Impression and hope that is really is authentic.

So thank you so much for your time, dedication and effort!

Have a great day & a nice weekend

Markus

Markus,

I hate to say it but I do not think it is genuine. Here's a link to PSA Autograph Facts exemplar database for James Dean:

https://www.psacard.com/autographfacts/entertainment/james-dean/183/

Dear Steve,

first of all, thank you very much for taking time to evaluate this autograph - although your answer makes me quite sad. Still I appreciate it!

And thank you for the link! I also referenced some examples known as authentic before - and to me my autograph still seems to be looking authentic...

The "D" as it was simplified over time etc. The flow, the shape/size/slant, the paper/ink etc.

I will further investigate and compare, too, but I am quite curious if there are other opinions...

In any case - thanks to everybody here for your kind support - and especially to you, Steve, for setting up such a wonderful platform.

Have a nice weekend
Markus

I have to admit that I have not spent a lot of time on Dean autographs, but in looking at this one, and comparing it to the ones on the PSA site, I would not rule out the possibility of it being authentic.   i see many similarities in the handwriting and also the letter formation.  Perhaps someone with more experience can comment.
