Hello to all,

My brother recently passed away at the young age of 53.  He was a professional boxer but probably no one you have ever heard of.  He met a large number of famous boxers and kick boxers.  While going through his things I found one of the popular Ali/Spinks photos.  I believe the Spinks autograph to be real but I didn't even notice Ali's 'signature' on his left arm.  After looking over several of his verified autographs it's hard to tell.  I know that this was probably signed in the late 90's or early 2000's if it was truly him that signed it.  Thanks for any help you can give.

I just found this on the PSA site of some of there authenticated signatures.  On their photo it vaguely appears that the ink is thicker where he stopped on the D and L at the end.  It looks somewhat the same on my photo, just more pronounced.

Looks real, but hard to tell for sure with the fading.

Jeff,

I'm so sorry to hear of your brother's passing. The Ali looks real to me. The one from PSA was from a paid private signing, which are usually nicer. Your brother's looks like it was signed for him in person.

Thanks for the reply.  I assume it would be worth getting authenticated?

PSA, Beckett, JSA?  One more preferred than others?

It may be worth it but I'm not sure. What's certification cost, $100? It's a desirable signed photo but fans are so used to the boldness of the private signing ones. You may be better off trying to sell it at a fair price uncertified first.

Both are definitely authentic. Spinks does not have huge value but the Ali should bring a few hundred without authentication and more with it

Thanks, Dan. What do you think it’s worth certified with that light of a signature?

Hi Steve, good question. Definitely reduces the value but I'd be amazed if you got less than $450-$500 authenticated and some collectors may go higher but as usual it would be a waiting game for someone wanting to pay more.

I got Leon Spinks in person and that signature matches mine.
