Hello all!  New to this forum.  My son and I are trying to purchase a Mickey Mantle signed ball.  We would love some help trying to locate one within our budget.  Perhaps someone on here with expertise on his signature could help us find one.  Not sure whether to try eBay, Upper Deck, or another memorabilia company.  I really don't want to get ripped off and buy a fake.

Much appreciated if you could help us out!  Perhaps via private message or in this post?

what is your budget?

$400

The ball you said was a perfect signature is currently on Ebay for $400.  Bidding closes in 6 hours I believe.  It is authenticated by JSA.

Hi Justin,

for price comparison this is the ball I bought from Daniel S. and it was considerably less than $400 - shipped and certified (the person I helped buy it wanted a sticker so...). Very bold contrast.

That's a really nice ball!  Daniel S. had one more for sale but it was not on an official ball so I was hesitant to buy.  So many out there on eBay, just not sure which ones are real or not.

Remember, there is no rush :) Good to see you posting for opinions :)

Excellent advice, Eric.  Don't be impulsive.  Ask us first.

Are any of the Upper Deck Mantles with original packaging, matching holograms known to be fake?  If not, I'd spend an extra $100 to be sure you have an authentic signature.  Read several places that some forgeries get thru the authentication process at JSA, Beckett, and PSADNA.

very few, if any, Mantle forgeries get by them.  That is one area where they are strong.

Good to know.  Thanks.

How would you rate the 3 - 4 big authentication services and per your example (JSA / Mantle), do any of them specialize in specific players more so than others?

Upper Deck or the other three companies listed?

Curious on opinion of all 4?  I know Upper Deck has players like Mantle, Williams, etc. but it seems like JSA is really good at authenticating certain high dollar signatures whereas maybe PSA is recognized at being the best at authenticating a different player. Have had my collection of BBWAA elected HOFs in storage for 15 years and have only just started getting back into collecting as my kids are getting older.  I stopped once the forgeries became too much to decipher and now it seems balls authenticated by these 4 companies are the only reputable ones.  Any insight is much appreciated.
