Any legitimate TPA, Epperson, PSA/DNA, JSA, BAS is going to bring a significant premium to an items resell. Always has, always will.
Not to me - I avoid anything with TPG, and there are several others here who are not influenced by the sticker. To the "average" collector yes it is desirable and helps resale but again, some advanced collectors will avoid such things as damaged and often very overpriced.
Ok, “not you” isn’t “not the market”. The market drives the value. You’re trying to negate the value based on your perception of TPA not being worth a premium and that isn’t factually sound based on the data and comparable selling records historically.
I would not trust some of those places - PSA can't even determine that half the exemplars they show of Jackie Gleason are just secretarials or simple forgeries. What good is the sticker there?
Well I can assure you PSA while not perfect commands some of the highest record prices you’ll see, probably for a reason
Have to disagree with you Joe and I've been following prices on Bruce (both Ebay and Auction Houses) and they are way down from their peak before he did the Broadway show. I've seen LPs with LOAs from those you mentioned sell for $250 with his "rushed" signature. Look at RR Auction's past sales on Bruce for the last two years -- and then go back 4-5 years -- you'll see the proof.
I’m not suggesting Springsteen is at the highest selling peak. I never suggested that. I simply stated that historical data shows certified authentic non inscribed copies carry a premium vs. Uncle Jimmy saying he thinks it’s good. I also don’t want someone to believe that a rushed Certified Springsteen is a cheap pick up because typically it isn’t.
My perception of PSA is quite sound when it comes to the Jackie Gleason fakes on their own Facts page. Besides, I prefer to do my own authentication and work - it is the where the education and fun is. I sell fine, more than some houses, without papers.
That’s your right to do so. I quad certify everything I own PSA, BAS, JSA and in music Epperson. 4 conclusive opinions in agreement with documentation will net me and has netted me much greater returns. To each their own. Back to the Springsteen. It’s real, it’s PSA and he shouldn’t take an uncertified price as value.
It is a very poor genuine example unfortunately and should not/will not bring the value of a legible nice signature with better contrast, sticker or no...except to a newer collector perhaps. I have seen half the places you just mentioned, plus another of sterling value, get the same item wrong all at once. I prefer to have my own opinion. With Jackie Gleason I would pit myself against any of those services anytime. I have been studying and learning his signature and signing habits for about 20 years. It is great fun and my idea of what the hobby is about.
"... commands some of the highest record prices you’ll see..."
Another fine reason to hunt one out in the wild and use your eye and education while saving money.
