Hello!

I would like to ask if someone has removed a dedication written directly on a vinylrecord ( on record not on sleeve) with a permanent marker?

For some reason I coulnt upload a picture of it. Its written on the vinyl where the music is,  which means that its not glossy on this area...I have some thoughts myself but would be happy to hear if someone has done this with some material.

Thank you    per

I can't really speak for an autographed record (I collect baseballs), but there is kind of an unwritten rule that you should never try to remove a dedication from any autograph.  Now, this may pertain to just baseballs, where it is nearly impossible to remove ink without causing damage to the ball, even if just slight damage.  I've ruined a couple of baseballs trying to remove dedications.

I would just leave it be.  Someone else may have a secret but I would be VERY careful if you try to remove it.  You can't reverse the damage you may cause.

Lastly, practice on a junk record if you can.  Use the same color marker and see how well you can get it off.  That may help you decide whether or not to use that method on the real autograph.

Take care!

Hi.

Thank you very much! I see. I didnt know theres a rule saying not to remove.

I understand why, as I have removed some on other items, on albumsleeves and drumhead.  I have managed very well,  on sleeves with a more glossy surface and also drumhead which also is glossy when its a clear one.

But when the sleeve not glossy,  there has been a damage on them, so youre right in that way.

Thank you for your time.

All the best!

Hej , I would also leave well alone because of the potential damage you can do.  Unless the record is really rare its not so terrible to have  writing on it

Hi.

Thank you very much, very good get some thoughts about it.

Take care!

If It's on the vinyl use a cotton ball and put lighter fluid on it and rub it gently over and over again it should come off pretty easily, The lighter fluid will evaporate quickly so keep it wet but not dripping wet let me know It works on most things plastic

I would use a q tip to avoid any fluid getting on other parts of the signature.

Thanks a lot,  I will keep that in mind!

Hi.

Thank you very much! Whats a cotton ball? I m Swedish and dont speak English/american as motherlanguage.

Quess I can use some material that I can rub with.

Just one question; have you done this yourself? The key question here is also if the lighter fluid will cause damage on the vinyl?

I tried with petrol on a testing record which destroyed the vinyl!!!! It caused big holes on the vinyl.

Personally I would not remove or alter any inscriptions at all.

Whilst I have never performed this treatment before I would definitely not use nail polish remover. It will destroy or damage the record.

Perhaps you could try turpentine or mineral spirits. Then clean the area with isopropyl alcohol immediately after!

I would most definitely try this procedure on a old record first etc.

The best thing to use is a cotton bud. The same as you would use to clean your ears.
