Good morning,

First of all, thank you so much for letting me being part of Autograph live. I'm interested in a Montgomery Clift's autograph but before buying it and taking into account that I'm not experienced at all, I would need some help. Maybe you can tell me if it's his right signature or not.

Thank you so much for your help in advance,

Bruno.

I don't know the autograph, but I know Monty got a raw deal.

Thank you so much for the song! I didn't know it. At least, if it's a fake autograph, I know another song hahaha Many thanks, Steve :)

Not authentic imo

Thank you so much, Michael. I was checking his autographs and that M at the beginning of Montgomery was a little bit dodgy. You were really kind

No way he signed that.

Thank you so much for your help, David. What about this one? I think this one is his real signature, but I trust you more.

Bruno, This one looks much better. In my humble opinion it stands a good chance of being real. Too bad the ink was not darker.

You're a star, David. Many thanks :)

Hi Bruno-

Here's my Clift...it's on a contract that he signed for the Selznick production of TERMINAL STATION in 1953. The first one is not real. The second one looks like it may be....is it on an album page? It's very rare that you will find him signing "Montgomery"...usually only on legal documents like this contract. He usually signed "Monty" like the second one you posted.

Wow, your Clift is amazing ☺️ Yeah, I realized that he used to sign by Monty and that M at the beginning on the first one was suspicious. And about the second one, according to the seller is just a sheet of paper, but with its own COA. But before buying it, I wanted to double-check with you, cause you're really experienced :)

Is the dealer someone that you have had association with previously or who comes recommended to you?  The reason I ask is that COA's sometimes are a good accompaniment for a piece to later have a paper trail as far as provenance is concerned.  But, in my humble opinion, sometimes they are not worth the paper they are printed on...depending on who is providing it.

I'd want to know more about the paper it's written on, for sure.  Is it vintage..and what kind of paper is it? What is the size of it?  Are there any other marks on it..or on the back?  What kind of pen is it written with?

Hi Etienne, no, actually it's the first time I want to buy an autograph. So, I don't know the dealer/seller. Anyway, they look professional. They said that the autograph will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity valid for 10 years from the date of purchase and also, within the 10 years COA period, the document is guaranteed to pass PSA/DNA or JSA authentication or they would refund the full purchase price..But regarding the paper, the only information is its size: 5-1/4x6 and good condition and I don't see other kind of marks. They look trustworthy, but I wanted your opinion because It's my first immersion in this world. Quite interesting I must say :)
