For better or worse I have quite a lot of these Spanish magazine photos. Some are definitely real, especially those dedicated to individual journalists and/or with a journalist's stamp on the back (e.g. from the Mary Spalding collection). I know that extreme care is needed and I must admit that I didn't have much to go on in assessing this LCJ photo. I'll try to do some more digging for known LCJ secretarials but I would have thought I'd have found them by now.

I definitely be interested in seeing some scans of these Spanish magazine dedicated photos. You might even start a new discussion about the topic.  I'd enjoy seeing authentic examples as I had some of them at one time and just basically traded them off for the photo value once I knew about the pattern of them.

That's a great idea Etienne. You could say that you've called my bluff. I'll start a new thread over Easter. I can't do it before as I had a hand (or should I say paw) operation this morning. I can still type but my left hand is far more bandaged than Lon's Mummy so it would be very difficult for me to get the autographed photos out of their albums for scanning. If all goes to plan I'll have the main bandages off on Thursday.

Yes,it would be interesting to see your images posted of those dedicated photos.  Just let us know on this thread that you have started a new one on that topic.

Meanwhile, hope your recovery goes well!

a pug called eva, The "L" on your photo needs to be a lot more like the "L" on the original posting and the one I posted. The "Chaney" should be a lot less cramped, and the letters a lot more legible. The "r" on Jr. is wrong. My autograph was obtained at the Hollywood USO, hundreds of military asking for autographs. So even rushed your can make out the letters in Chaney.

Hi David, thanks again. I wonder if Lon cramped his signature for space reasons. He certainly seems to have been running out of white backcloth. Maybe this also accounts for the tighter "L" in Lon. I see what you mean about the "r" in Jr. though I have seen examples where the "r" flows directly from the "J".

a pug called eva, The "L" needs to be more cramped downward. My latest PSA example of the "r" in Jr. does not have a period. My USO autograph does not have a period. My exemplar of his driver license does not have a period……Lon signed a lot of autographs in his lifetime. He obviously signed a lot during WW2 in person.  The studio mail department was also cranking out publicity photos. How many survived till today? Keep checking the internet for 3rd party sold "Jr" items….Still a great photo!!

I remember meeting Ron Chaney, Sarah Karloff and Bela Lugosi, Jr's all, in one day. This was neat because my dad met their respective horrific counterparts in one day at a movie theater C. 1948. I own the 35MM master and negatives of Glen or Glenda? and contacted Bela Jr. about buying it. He was unsure of which movie this was and made me reproduce his fathers speech over the telephone. "Tell me green dragon..." and "Pull the stringk!" - this was like some sort of crazed nightmare. However, he gave me an A+. He had me run the film for his people at DuArt in NYC which was great - watching my film in a theater with 4 recliners. However, I think they copied my film! Dad Lugosi would never do such a thing.

i ended up buying it. with it being so rare and signed 8x10's selling for 5k+ the price was reasonable. it looks pretty good next to my lugosi. now i need a karloff

Hi Cory-

I remember that Lugosi for sale...I think from PPC as well?

They do make a great pairing!

Following on from the dicussion around about my Mummy example, I just started a thread about publicity photographs dedicated to Latin American magazines.
