What was the appeal of Greta Garbo? (I know this may be out of the purview of this forum)

For the life of me, I can't understand Greta Garbo's appeal. She was notoriously aloof, wouldn't sign autographs, and just seemed like someone I would go out of my way to avoid. She always came across on the screen---at least to me---as being an unpleasant person.

Maybe her private life eclipsed her professional life, which gave me such a jaundiced view of her.

as always

Here's something that I've been aware of for the couple of years that it's been on eBay.  The seller is located in Argentina ... and does not accept returns (usually not a good sign):

Garbo has a pretty easy signature to replicate, her cursive writing is pretty simplistic (like Buster Keaton) and hence easily forged. I can’t imagine this is authentic and the terms aren’t very favorable for the buyer, hard pass.

I don't begrudge any high value autograph dealer who doesn't accept returns on eBay.

It's too easy to get ripped off by return fraud on high value items, even when those items are more substantive than an easily replicated/forged piece of paper.

Listings with no returns are still subject to SNAD/INAD complaints, PayPal disputes, and chargebacks, so it's not a particularly great protection, but it's not a move that sets off alarm bells with me.

I certainly appreciate your point about return fraud, Mike.   Got me thinking.  Thanks!
