Found this on eBay and thinking of bidding on it, but wanted opinions on it before I did so. It isn't in the best condition however.

This is way beyond normal age and creases. You can't even get a cut out of it - the damage extends into the signature at the start and that is bad. And then the fading. I have a LOT of signed vintage glossy photographs and none of them are in this ravaged state. I have never seen anything like this is any decent collection. Start a thread called "Would you buy this?" and see the results. I'd be very interested - a good excercise.

If people wanted to chime in about it, I think they would. They could come to this thread and read what I put here about it being on eBay and me thinking about bidding on it. So far not many people have chimed in.

I suspect there is a reason.

That is their choice then. I got opinions in here, all helpful. Plus, it's not like I would be spending a fortune on this item by bidding on it.

If you like it and its in your budget buy it simple as that. No right or wrong as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are certain items that come up for sale in my collection that I buy no matter what if the price is right and it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks.

That is what my thoughts are. As long as it stays within what I am willing to spend on this particular item, I am going to get it and preserve it. It still holds as a piece of musical history.

But you won't see it 2-3 feet away...

Overall, this is a decent or less than good item for a starter Frank piece to me, at least. The only other item I have is a secretarial signed Frank item. This could potentially be displayed well if framed. That is what I am more interested in. I have a price limit in mind already since it's bidding and it's not in good condition. It all comes down to personal choice.

Sellers negatives for the last six months suggest strongly this may be worse than shown.

I'm not sure why out old pal ERIC is dissing your choice of Frank's authentic signature. After you checked it's authenticity here, our input ends (unless solicited). It's not our job to pass judgement, just authenticity.

Personally, I dig the vintage stuff, Dylan, and at the price, I'd have taken a chance, too.

Screw what everyone else thinks, lol! Enjoy.

I am not dissing anyones choice, I was making a case for condition. There is far more to the purview of this site and hobby than simple authenticity. Many more textures that have bearing to discuss. And there are many with knowledge of ink or photographs or paper who can add valuable comments. As in the Sitting Bull thread - it wasn'r so much yes or no but why - condition was key. Most here would agree that in most all cases condition is everything after authenticity. I've seen people in here suggest a better example and so on. It's obviously not secretarial. So what else to discuss? Condition and related subjects. I'd really hope a friend of mine would take the time to help me avoid potential mistakes. I only collect vintage material myself.

I thought our job is to help eachother out.. if this is just about authenticity ONLY, we better get rid of the entire music direct autograph sales catagory.. since we have no idea of authenticity until those arrive..
