Hello collectors first and foremost I want it to be clear that I am not questioning the sellers credentials one bit...
Since this was certified by James Spence as you can see he signed off on this cert. this forum is strictly about JSA and there authenticating services...
This is by far the ugliest authenticated Mantle autograph I have ever seen that JSA has certified..the last name portion is quite horrific...
Has anyone ever seen Mantle ever sign in this fashion ?
Would you want to hang this up on your wall even if the auction ended under $100.00 ?
Is this a posible free bee auto some one got off Mantle while he was crowded and Mantle rushed the hell out of it ?
There are some slight authentic qualities to it and it does not fall into the category of the run of the mill fakes and forgeries I have seen...I personally think its an extremely rushed standing up Mantle or was signed while walking and signing...
ANY THOUGHTS ?
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE COMMENTS...
ONCE AGAIN I WANT TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT QUESTIONING THE SELLERS CREDENTIALS ONE BIT...JUST THE JSA CERT.

I think the point of this is how something like this, even though it does have some positives, can be absolutely authenticated to the point that someone would put their name on it. i have seen some ridiculous McCartney sigs authenticated, some look like they were signed by a 5-year old, and I just don't see how anyone can certify examples that are not in line with known examples. That's all!
It could be a couple of things.
First, the authenticator may have an extensive exemplar library that includes similar rushed in--person signatures.
Also, the authenticator may take into account all the positive attributes and deduce that it far outweighs the atypical characteristics. It really doesn't make sense that a forger would nail the Ms and the general feel of the signature, yet totally muck up the simplest part of the signature -- the final e and crossing the t.
Just a guess on my part.
Well this piece ended ruffly $110.00 with shipping...not bad for an authentic Mantle
Cee Gee, the market determines what it is worth. And that is all its worth, if it is authentic. If you walked up to Jeter and asked him to sign, and he (just to be a Di*&) signed his name in a way that looked nothing like any jeter you have ever seen, even though you witnessed it and it is legit, would it have any value? just something to consider! its like some of the awful McCartney's I see authenticated.
take a look a this one:

another rush job?
This is not a signature I have studied extensively, but, I do see some positive traits.
