Bob Dylan AUTOPEN Info To Help With Returns / Refunds - Simon & Schuster, Premiere, and Coles

A message posted by Bob Dylan to his Facebook account

To my fans and followers,

I’ve been made aware that there’s some controversy about signatures on some of my recent artwork prints and on a limited-edition of Philosophy Of Modern Song. I’ve hand-signed each and every art print over the years, and there’s never been a problem.
However, in 2019 I had a bad case of vertigo and it continued into the pandemic years. It takes a crew of five working in close quarters with me to help enable these signing sessions, and we could not find a safe and workable way to complete what I needed to do while the virus was raging. So, during the pandemic, it was impossible to sign anything and the vertigo didn’t help. With contractual deadlines looming, the idea of using an auto-pen was suggested to me, along with the assurance that this kind of thing is done ‘all the time’ in the art and literary worlds.
Using a machine was an error in judgment and I want to rectify it immediately. I’m working with Simon & Schuster and my gallery partners to do just that.

With my deepest regrets,
Bob Dylan

Some users have uncovered potential autopen use within Bob Dylan's expensive art prints. Please check your prints if you own one and post a picture on this thread if you have any concerns.

*UPDATE -  Let this be a warning to ALL publishers and celebrities in the future. We are sick and tired of these autopen releases. Our community has had enough and absolutely will not stand for this practice to continue any longer!!!

I want to point out that Coles Books needs to be commended. They made sure to look out for their customers and refused to ship these out if they came from the same S&S stock, which they did. It was also an easy process to cancel orders beforehand if you wished. Coles. on behalf of everyone, I want to thank you for having integrity and watching out for all of us.

I can NOT say the same about Premiere Collectibles. They refused to honor cancelation requests until it was known these books were in fact autopenned. They advertise themselves claiming they are collectors themselves. This is not true. They are a retailer first and only care about your money. There have been other autopen incidents where they absolutely refused to accept blame, stating items were real when they were clearly deemed autopen by the community. Be careful with future purchases with Premiere Collectibles.

This email came directly from Jonathan Karp at Simon and Schuster. If anyone still wishes to send him a message, here is his email address as well.

jonathan.karp@simonandschuster.com

We apologize for the mistake that was made and are offering a full refund of your purchase.  Please keep your copy of The Philosophy of Modern Song at no cost. We hope you will enjoy reading it.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Karp

ORIGINAL POST

I am creating this thread as a comprehensive all in 1 link for returns, refunds, chargebacks and claims made regarding the "signed" edition of Bob Dylan - The Philosophy Of Modern Song. Please use this link to email Simon & Schuster, Coles, and Premiere Collectables as 100% proof these were signed using an autopen machine.

I would like to say right off the bat, Coles Books in the UK is handling this professionally and seem to care deeply about their customer base. They have stated that, once they are in hand, If they find evidence of them being autopenned, they will cancel all orders.. Kudos to Coles.. I wish all retailers would follow their lead. If you wish to cancel your order with them immediately instead of waiting, It seems to be an easy process.

This post will be continuously updated with new information over the next few days

Please refer to this article for the time being until more information is added

Here is the post I created a few weeks ago with info regarding the Indigo incident.

https://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/indigo-bob-dylan-po...

So far, there have been a total of 17 confirmed different templates for the autopen machine used for Bob Dylans signature. I am in the process of creating video comparisons for all 17 sets. Please post full page photos of your item as they are delivered to aid in this process

Here are all 17 templates used by Bob Dylan - I am still looking for full page photos for numbers 8,13 and 15 thru 17 but its still best to post whatever you receive

Be aware when checking against your own copy, it has come to light that they are possibly using 1st and last names interchangeably. Bob in #2 matches perfectly with Bob in #13 while Dylan in both are different

14th variation confirmed

15th variation

16th variation - Seems to be almost an exact combination of #11 and #13 with a different vertical line in his "D"

17th variation

Dolly Parton is also guilty of using multiple autopens in the same fashion with multiple templates over the years but with a slight twist where they manipulate the page as the autopen machine writes her signature. If we are looking to stop all future attempts at autopen usage, she needs to be held accountable just as much as Bob Dylan and S&S. Link to threads below

Here is a great example provided by Eric Keith Longo

There's a reason why they're called fans, short for fanatic.

But to the many of us who paid $600+ and may or may not have been a fan, Bob Dylan really did wrong by us. I wonder what he means by "make it right"

Agreed. Regardless of being fans, which makes it arguably worse to take advantage of, or even if it's people who don't give a crap about him and are simply buying to make a buck... selling anyone thousands of fake items for hundreds/thousands of dollars each is wrong, and I'd assume a major crime.

I really hope they do something to make good with the people who actually put out their money for this stuff, and had to deal with the lies and frustration from S&S... the wording on the apology was pretty open for interpretation. They said they're working with galleries and S&S to rectify the situation, so who knows if that means with them only... or if it includes ALL the people who were affected.

I feel like they should give something to the people who bought them to make up for besides a fake signed book that p***** me off when I look at it... A refund and an apology is good, but doesn't mean much in the end. All that means is you're in the same spot as if you didnt buy it in the first place... but add a bunch of frustration and problems in exchange for a fake book you probably don't want.

So hopefully they send a real signed photo, or at minimum a bookplate to put over the fake signatures to the people who bought the books, and a new real signed print to the people who bought those (and maybe a full or partial refund)... and even then the bad thing is many people will still look at those books and prints as being tainted/questionable in the future... but obviously not as big of a concern if you didn't pay $600 or $3000+ for them.

Let's face it, the books and prints don't cost that much to produce. The book is the same as the normal version that sells for maybe $25-30, and the prints are paper and ink, they can't be insanely expensive to make... He might not like signing, but it wouldn't take that long to sign replacements for the autopen items. So it wouldn't cost that much, or be that hard to do to give out real signed items along with the refunds, and would make him look really good in the process... a win win for everyone involved... but I definitely won't hold my breath. Hopefully something good comes out of this mess though, at minimum maybe some of these people will think twice about using autopens/fake signatures from now on. I guess that can be considered a win if nothing else.

PFC collecttor makes great  ppoints.  I wwonder what we will find if we start  looking at his  signed works prior to 2019.  We would be in jail if we did anything similar to Bob and came up with his excuse

You’re misreading what he stated. He stated he had vertigo in 2019. He said it persisted throughout the pandemic. He said he had trouble signing during the pandemic. There was no pandemic in 2019. That was extra info that wasn’t needed.  The pandemic was march 2020. The drawn blank prints were already signed. Ask castle galleries when bob signed the drawn blank prints for 2020. What month…. Lol. It was before march.

his vertigo has nothing to do with him signing. He just used it for sympathy and got it. Sweet baby Jesus I have mail de debarquement syndrome and live with a dizzy disorder every day of my life. Spare me the vertigo sob story.

It’s terrible. There are a few bashing him as they should but it’s few and far between . I’m helping with the bashing

I'm sure most the people doing the ass kissing didn't put out hundreds or thousands of dollars for a fake item they were lied to about multiple times too.

I'm sure if they got scammed and lied to they'd be upset too, I doubt they'd be jumping to defend their scammers... but oh well, I guess if I was to be mad about idiots on social media, I'd have to be mad all the time. Lol

can you post a link to this thread? I do not use facebook outside of family stuff otherwise I woud

Ah thanks for that link, I meant it the other way though. I have facebook but restrict its use for only personal stuff, I should probably get another dummy account but cant be bothered. I'm wondering if someone can post our thread here as a comment on his facebook post. Its probably a stupid rule but I want to remain just a lurker on facebook lol

Oh sorry I misread that, I thought you just wanted a link posted here to keep track of what he said here as well, but I guess a screenshot makes more sense. Thats what I get for trying to keep up on everything when I'm half asleep. I'm the same way, I try my best to stay away from Facebook... but I was very tempted to leave some not too happy replies after reading some of those comments, but figured it's a lost cause if they're that obsessed that even major fraud to fellow fans doesn't turn them off. Figured my best bet is to just stop reading them before I got anymore annoyed.

I’m one of them

100% nauseating

oh god that was damage control. He didn’t think autopen was okay.
Vertigo has nothing to do with him signing

it was sympathy

I do think he was scared during the pandemic. So signing was an issue. Yes. So instead of not making $&$ he autopen signed and stole money.
