Hi all,

I purchased a set of Bob Dylan signed Mondo Scripto prints a couple of years ago from Castle Art.

The recent S&S book controversy is making me uneasy about the authenticity of the “hand-signed” signatures on the prints.

How can I tell if the signatures are autopen/are there any forum members who also may have any of these prints so we can compare signatures?

No idea

I am finding it very difficult to accept that other art releases are not caught up in this.  The period Dylan has admitted to is not consistent with the releases which Castle are offering redress on. I am fortunate to have collected many pieces over the years.  Comparing signatures , the difference in signature from previous releases started in 2019. In February 2021 ( whilst we were still in lockdown ) I purchased two pieces from the Asia Series  both of which have very different signatures to those prior to 2019.  Have a look at Huon Province currently on the Castle website - signature clearly visible and compare to pre 2019.  A representative even tried to explain to me that these were all signed years in advance of release.  Asia Series for example was practically a sell out so the amount of redress that Castle would need to be pay back to purchasers would be eye watering if these were proven to be autopenned.  Does anyone else share my concern

This is my Mondo Scripto 2020 " it aint me babe".  Although Castle Fine Arts say it is only the retrospectum prints that are auto pen and several art prints from 2019 I now feel it is disappointing that this is a common accurance by all accounts, and done all the time.  I hope mine is an original hand signed print but will always wonder now if it really is.

I do very well with Gleason and Bowie and pit my skills against anyone. I do work for auction houses too, behind the scenes, pulling bad material and vetting material as well.

Why thank you kind Sir. ;)

Everyone: Remember not to degrade members. Argue statements and opinions all you want but don't make it personal.

When you insult someone, 99% of what they hear is your insult. They're far less likely to give any credence to your points. You're not just hurting them, you're hurting the effectiveness of Autograph Live.

Once or twice a month I get an email or FB text from someone asking for advice because they're afraid they'll look stupid or get ridiculed if they join the site for help. And for every person who writes me there may be hundreds who don't.

It's not rare for one person to notice something that everyone missed, is it? And sometimes that person is inexperienced and came for help.

10 years ago we were discussing an auctioned item that had 2 signatures on it. Most of us were sure they weren't real but you'd have to know the celeb's autograph well to be able to tell.

One member noticed something obvious that everyone else missed that made it clear as a bell to us that the autographs were forgeries. Something so obvious that even people who aren't collectors can learn to identify in seconds.

That item sold the year before for well in excess of $1,500,000.

Our differences are a BIG part of our strength.

Not entirely convinced... Castle saying that only prints released in 2022 are affected..and all prints editions released/sold in 2019, 2020 and 2021 were signed before 2019 autopen.

I am with you on this.   Let’s just work this through. So we have his validated signature  - see previous posts. November 2022.  (Charity site) This  looks the same as his signature on his 2017/ 2018 release of signed prints . So let’s call those releases the backstop.  Dylan admits to problems in 2019 and through the covid years  and using autopen . His signature is questionable on a limited edition from a 2019 release which I purchased and on the Asia Series which I also purchase in Feb 2021.  The Asia Series was released during lockdown.  These dates tie  in with Dylan’s Statement. The signatures are noticeably different from his previous print releases and I have been purchasing since 2008.  Bob has confessed to using autopen during 2019 and covid years. . Castle have said the only art effected was released in 2022 and everything else released before then is Ok because it was all signed before 2019. If that’s the case then Bob must have been using autopen for much longer which I do not believe.  I bought a 2017 release and it  has a signature consistent with previous releases.   It feels like there is a damage limitation exercise being carried out because let’s face it the stakes are eye poking if redress has to be paid out on more releases due to mis selling by Castle.  Asia for example is a sell out.  Do the maths! Bob said he wanted to make amends. Castle are sticking to their script . More  transparency required

Not autograph related but some of Bob's paintings have been accused of being copied straight from random photos off the internet.

Blog by somebody who thinks Bob copied his photograph (also mentions & links to a theory that Dylan didn't even paint them)
