Hi, Folks,

Any opinions on the authenticity of this signed golf ball?

Thanks,

Pete

Not really sure...I have seen Mantle golf balls before but I would imagine that has got to be an extremely hard surface to sign for anyone...There is something about it that looks off to me...not saying for sure that its bad...but I don't see many positive characteristics in the auto to say for certain that its good either in my opinion...even in the inscription...

Were did you get it ?

I bought it from a golf collector who stated that it was signed at a charity golf event.

I think it may not be authentic

At the time I bought it, I had PSA/DNA give me one of their likely/not likely authentic assessments on eBay and it came back as "likely authentic". So I have been planning to send it in for an official authentication.

That may be your best bet Pete...Let me know how you make out...like I said before signing something that small that's not smooth may be the reason why it looks off...I am sure the pros can give you a better answer...

I appreciate your help, CG. I have been studying the Mantle authentication information you and other helpful board members have been posting, but I am still quite in the dark on authenticating Mantle autos. I’ll send the ball to PSA/DNA, as, I think, if they certify it as authentic, it would be a relatively rare Mantle signed item.

Cool bro...I have seen them before...not many though...also Berra...Larsen...and Ford...there rare indeed...

I would be stunned if this was authentic.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I am going to stay optimistic until I get confirmation either way from the experts.

Thanks for the help, Cee Gee and Zipper. Some day I hope to be able to say I have an authentic Mantle auto in my collection. If not this one, I'll get one that is already certified by a reliable source.

No problem and I apologize if I came off as rude. I didn't mean it that way. In my experience, signed golf balls -- especially from non golf celebs -- are rarely authentic. So it would surprise me if that was not the case here.

On this one in particular, I do not like the way the "loops" are almost entirely to the left of the Ms rather than being partially underneath as well.
