Found this eBay listing from Jeffery Hunter, Captain Pike from the original Pilot episode of Star Trek. What do we think of the signature/worth buying?

Here’s the listing

The above SP was sold by Gary at Classic. I saw it while looking to see if he had anything that fits the bill for Startrekmaniac. Dr. B also has this for $250 but I would need a bigger scan:

Do you have a link?

Hunter @ Classic

It is very hard to see. Perhaps save and enlarge in a photoprogram. Actually, you can't save there it so a screencap.

Thanks! Any idea it if has a coa and who issued it?

No, just that Gary has it. I pay little attention to COA's and I don't think Gary sells much certified stuff although I could be wrong.

A coa is the provenance. I will take a look. Thanks!

A COA is not provenance. Those are two very different things.

A COA is someone saying they think it is real on a paper. PROVENance...real provenance contains the highlighted word for a reason.

This is a COA:

This is what I consider iron provenance:

Break the word up this way:

pro/ venance

pro =  forth

venance (venire) = come

"Where does it come forth from?"

or (as we might say)

"What is it's known history?"

I knew those 3 semesters of Latin that I endured in school would be useful someday!

I think that candid I posted is far more desirable as it is unique and attractive.

To be honest, I think I would skip this one in the OP.  It's close in some aspects....but not quite spot on.   If this was actually signed to an 'old friend', I would more expect to have seen him signing as 'Jeff' as was his usual habit even for less intimate dedicatees.

That 'H' in his surname is kind of wonky and the connection between that and the first name is not quite right.  An oddity I would say.  The same seller has something else more typical and (at least to me) visually more appealing:

He's somewhat scarce as he died relatively young.  This is a fair bit of money for something that looks rather iffy.

p.s.  The more I look at this, the more I'd recommend passing on it.

Agreed, more exemplars at least. It has interesting aspects but not enough here, especially later signatures. The OP is rather loose.
