Every time I see it, I think "genuine but ugly" and then I look again and like it less and less. Has some good characteristics and some bad. Not worth buying regardless. Put it in the "not sure and not worth exploring" pile.
I've been itching to ask this question for years but now I finally will. You quite often refer to Freddie autographs as "genuine bur ugly" but I can't always see what you mean by "ugly". This is certainly the case here too.
I don't think Freddie's autograph was one of the more beautiful at the best of times (not like Roger's for instance) but how what makes an example of his autograph "ugly" for you? Maybe it would be interesting to create a separate thread on this subject.
No thanks. I was working on a Queen example folder for this site years ago and stopped when I realized how many forgers were using sites like these to study. Signatures from bands would get posted here and then reprinted and posted on ebay shortly after. A large number coming from Spain and out of Chicago IL (largely Queen, Michael Jackson and McCartney). I try to keep my explanations brief to not help them. When I say ugly, I mean not visually appealing. Atypical, usually. Rushed can also end up being ugly. The word ugly is obviously down to personal taste. I use it when I see an example that just doesn't look nice. I personally like the look of his relaxed hand throughout the years. His rushed stuff in my opinion could be, well, ugly.
Thanks Innuendo. I understand where you are coming from as regards helping forgers. I was really asking what makes a Freddie visually unappealing to you rather than what makes it genuine. To me, the ANATO in the OP above is more visually appealing than the ANATO that is coming up for auction soon (Gotta Have It R n' R) and that most people are very admiring of. That doesn't mean that I would trust the OP example.
Is there a particular time period in which his autograph was most appealing to you?
Oh, I see. To me, his relaxed hand in the mid 70s could sometimes flow quite nicely and have lovely character. More so than the 80s style (which although nice, is visually worlds away from his 70s hand). Visually, I'd say that mid 70s style tends to appeal to me the most lately. I do quite like the ANATO piece at GHRR, to be honest. The others signed at the same session (more relaxed) are even more appealing in my eyes. But that's just my personal opinion of course.
