JK, I just realized I said what you said!

Steve Grad makes it clear that his online authentication is based on a digital review "...verified as authentic based on a digital review." While you can usually tell if an autograph is printed or live, based on the look or if you recognize the autograph is a copy of one you've seen, reproductions get better all the time. An in-person review is often required to be 100% sure.

If JSA is at a show and sending images to one of their authenticators, I'm sure the person at the show making sure it's not a reproduction first.

Steve still works for Beckett as a consultant. And i understand why you think his service is just  a glorified  autograph review,  but if you're using that as your example then one could argue that JSA is also a glorified autograph review because they do the exact same thing Steve does.  Submit a autograph by email for review.  And I've been to several shows where JSA is set up. And it's always 1 or 2 people running  the table they have set up, and not one person has any autograph experience . I guess the only way to know for certain is mail in your submission and take email out of the equation.  Thank you all for your help and input. Everyone has a very legitimate point

I've come to the conclusion that you should just mail in your submissions to take most of the problems out of the equation. Thank you everyone for your your help and knowledge. I've definitely learned alot. I hope everyone has a great weekend. Thank you all again. Best Wishes Don

My question must have confused members.  I just wanted to know how a Grad letter of authenticity compares to a PSA or JSA letter of authenticity when it comes to resale values

Are they equal or is there a difference in price when it comes to resale value.

No confusion at all. JK is also correct. The difference has been laid out for you. JSA, no matter what they do in the background, starts with an in person viewing to rule out the basic styles of fraud. This is something Grad lacks. So overall, after gathering all facts in one discussion, its clear that specifically for resale purposes, a Grad verification should not be considered the same as a formal authentication by JSA, PSA or Beckett where they authenticate both in person, and from what you state, off site as well..

All I know is when I take my items to JSA for same day authentication, there are people in front doing research as well as in back behind a curtain.. and then in 2 hours or so, I have my item back in hand. They are thorough but everyone makes mistakes regardless

I understand that  a person physically looks at the autograph before emailing it to an authenticator, but the person who physically looks at the autograph isn't an administrator so the have no idea if the autograph is real or if it's a copy or even live ink. There just a warm body who takes your money and a few pictures and emails the pics to the authenticators They even mention to you when you fill out the submission form they are not authenticators and can't judge your autographs. So yes they can physically see your submission but don't have a clue if the autograph is genuine.  They have one job take your money and pictures and send emails. In fact back in July I  went to a show  because  I  knew JSA was submitting autographs and the person running  the table was the 15 year old sin of the shops owner

I doubt he would recognize his own signature.  LOL

DR, I will provide you with my simple assessment.  I would say that all three command about the same premium over non-authenticated items. The reason I say that is that they have all made mistakes, and what they are offering is an opinion, not a guarantee.   Personally, I trust a company like ACOA who I do use when I am purchasing non-sports items.  They have a very good reputation for authenticity, and when I am looking at high end items like Nicholson and Eastwood, I go with items authenticated by ACOA.

Thanks for your time and help 🙏

Thanks again for your opinion. If I've learned anything from this discussion is that the safest way to authenticate my autographs is just to mail them to PSA or BECKETT this way I know my autographs will be carefully looked at in person and at least I won't worry of someone making a mistake and I will know for sure the values of my autographs will be consistent with other autographs verified by PSA and Beckett. Thank you to all members who shared their opinions.  Thank you Best regards Don

I'm not sure what your area is like but sometimes specific cardshops have PSA events with deals. The last one I attended was anything normally priced $49 and under was just $15.. 20% off higher up to $100. Its the only reason I had certain items in my collection authenticated. I would never have bothered at full price.. learn the card shops in your area and keep an eye out.

Steve is advertising his quick opinion service heavily on social media. Its a good price (9.00) so he must be getting a ton of emails,.  My question is , with so many emails to looks at,  is he the one who actually decides or does he have a team of people doing it along with him?

Thats the 10,000 question. I would imagine that he must has some people who help him, it would be impossible for one person to answer all the submissions he must get. I wonder if they use some sort of AI to help out.  I also would imagine that certain autographs he looks at personally especially if they are worth alot of money . But I also tend to believe that all the company's like PSA JSA and BECKETT also use AI in some form. Especially now that PSA owns every single company
