Hello. I'm very new to autograph collecting. I recently bought from a Hollywood-based collector what I hope is an authentic James Stewart autograph on a 1946 Republic Pictures Corporation promotional photograph from "It's a Wonderful Life."I posted two photos in hopes that someone out there knows enough about James Stewart autographs to give me a sense as to its authenticity.
Please click on the attached photo and enlarge the signature as necessary. I also attached a photograph depicting the full promotional photo.
Any help is much appreciated.
That is a very, very nice item. Great promo photo with superb signature placement. In my opinion, the signature is authentic.
A+

Thank you for the kind note. I suppose one can only compare the signature to known authentic samples. I did notice the "t" has a hook at the bottom, which does not appear to be a common characteristic based on others I have seen. Is it possible he had several varations of his signature based on stage of life, setting, mood, etc? Have you ever seen the "t" portrayed in this manner?
Again, thanks much.
Bill
Almost all of them have a "hook" type motion at the end. They can be directed either way, toward the signature or away from it; being pointed toward the signature is more common in my experience.
Nice, Bill!
