Here is a photograph (glossy) that I may want to remove the personalized name inscription.  How would I go about doing this?  Also, would it retract the value/historical value of the piece as a whole?

This is a question that is largely a matter of personal choice.  I am of the old school on the subject and would not do it myself.  It would affect the value of the photograph in my opinion/  I believe any photograph offered for sale that has had a name removed needs to have that disclosed.    I do not see the link to the photograph so not sure who it is.  I also wonder about the long term affects of whatever solvent will be used on the photograph.

Sorry, I forgot the photograph; I thought I had linked it in the description.  It's a glossy photograph by the way.  I am thinking rubbing alcohol but I guess vintage pieces are better with inscriptions; it helps with authenticity.  I just dont like how much it was personalized.  Last names are a bummer..

Here it is:

A great photograph.  The name is close to the inscription and you will need to be really careful if you try a removal.  Having a last name is a bit unusual.  Did you try looking up the person to see if maybe they were part of a crew etc.?

Eli Wallach wrote first and last names on all TTM signings he did. That's just a fan who sent it in.

Great to know and in my opinion if the name was removed it would raise red flags for people in trying to sell it.

I know JXE; from what I've seen of him that is true.  I just prefer pieces without full name inscriptions.  they do add to the authenticity though..  I guess I'll just live with the inscription

If you want a real one without an inscription, you can get one off of Celebrity Authentics. However, I don't think they have any Tuco shots.

thanks JXE.  I looked at their site; the pricing on their photos scared me away hahaha.  I managed to find a signed index card with JSA authentication for cheap.  I wanted a photo to match my signed Van Cleef and Clint ones, but I guess this will do for now.

Thanks!

Not worth it IMO simply because it can ruin the piece if not done right.

IMO it is better to leave the inscription on the photo; like the others have said, you risk ruining the photo if it isn't done right

I prefer inscriptions. First name, last name, who cares! More letters for me to authenticate. If they have unique handwriting, like Elsa Lanchester and so on, I don't care if they go on forever.

I think that is great point actually.  Inscriptions make it easier to authenticate because fewer forgers will take the time and effort to learn complete handwriting.  I have never been bothered by an inscription it is part of the history of the photograph.
