I know about all of the controversy surrounding his autos (the few there are).  What do you all think?  I am looking for one to complete a project.

I'm no Jackie Gleason expert, but I'd never use a 2-foot tall signature written against a wall on "What's My Line?" as a significant exemplar...except for another big signature written against a wall.

Others have used this as an exemplar, but to me it's only a basic idea of what his autograph was like in, what...1955?

To each their own and as you well know since I've posted this several times it was not intended to be an only example just an example of one he actually signed that didn't need debate. How it's used, viewed or applied is upto the reader.

odd that you would say that though especially since you expressed just the opposite on others;

Love this...thanks!

"What's My Line" could be a treasure trove.

Look at these...Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward secretarials: (also from WML)

They're good for a basic idea of a signature.

Touch confused DB?? - I own the PSA one - is there some doubt re its authenticity??? there would appear to be a mixture of real and secs in the above images????

regards

Grant

No confusion on my part as I know exactly which are which.  The only one that is 100% w/o question authentic is two posts up.

since none of us ever saw him sign in person we can only surmise as to which ones are authentic and which one's aren't. For clarificaiton though; PSA & ISItReal ones would be deemed authentic,  The two with the My Best Wishes secretarial (which btw, PSA has opined as authentic many times as many know) leaving the thread subject one which I suspect is not signed by Gleason - maybe the wife as has been noted but would like a few more examples.

Grant

In my humble opinion yours is indeed authentic

that would be the PSA one Bob.   Ahh,  I see the issue as some might erroneously think I was going back and forth on the PSA one but was talking about the thread subject with the full post ended up down the list of examples... Oh well.

speaking of which here is an authentic one that sold on EBAY last month for a mere $65.00.  So they are out there... amd better if your name is bill or ruth & of all things a My Very Best Wishes as well.!

DB

That is a great example of an authentic Gleason.

Price is awesome.

How have you been

I picked up an authentic Gleason for $10 . I posted it Van Der Hovens blog awhile back. There isnt a big market for him that I see. Maybe because of all the secreterial versions out there.

went looking for it but those threads are so chewed up in some cases even the commentary is whacked...

certainly seems t/b an abundance of secretarial versions from wife, secretaries and more than likely studios.  The $$ ones for me would be an authentic honeymooner one his various characters or something unique.   Seems there aren't many of cast ones as a number of them have one bad signature on it (gleasons) or having an incomplete one with three (while looking for the cut one), well, we have at least given AG an answer and some insight on his quest.

Thank you Bob, and appreciate your esteemed opinion

DB

In that case you must have a number of what you perceive are "maybe, potentially, perhaps, deemed to be, could be, surmised, 'authentic' autographs in your collection!!
