On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.
Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.
Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.
If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/
Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.
Thanks for your help.

Only way to link it is to find out the buyer and see if the consigner at Juliens is the same.
We now know the buyer at Gotta Have It was a collector, and not the same person who consigned the other one to Julien's.
the buyer could have sold it to the consigner at julien or ask someone closed to him to consigne it in order to mask the connection...
I thought of that too. I mean it would totally be stupid not to if you are gonna put a fake signature on it.
There likely are more than one of these Victory Tour jumpsuits. The wear patterns on the left leg and hip look different to me.
Can you get in touch with your contact at Gotta Have R&R, is that Ed...? and ask him if those 5 outfits are the same they sold on the March 10th 2010 Auction...?
With their confirmation, we can be absolutely sure!
I called Ed Kosinski and he said the Victory Tour jumpsuit sold. They are likely different examples of the same design. I didn't ask about the other items and don't plan to. Not part of what we're working on.
Face,
Ed just checked and the Victory Tour jumpsuit they sold in March 2010 sold to a collector. He said he asked Darren about it at the time, and Darren said the consignor had more than one. Check the differences in finish layer wear patterns and you may see what I do that makes me believe they're different examples.
ok to sum up the situation
-We have proof that most of the 200 autographed items being sold are just FAKE ones
-Compared to Bush signatures they both look alike.
-Top autograph dealers and authenticators officialy declared those bush autographs as FAKES.
I returned home late last night and will be doing all I can to help today. I am catching up and reviewing my notes and e-mails. I have had contact and correspondence with some very important people in the media and in the Jackson family. The problem that I have been facing is I have been told that the discussion is going in too many directions. There are many personal feelings and a lot of personal issues discussed that although may be very important, are not dealing directly with the main issue of autograph authentication. I have to go through each reply and note what items are appropriate and pertain directly to the discussion. There are items in this discussion that are turning people off and making it very hard to follow. I am glad to see that Roger Epperson has added his professional opinion to the discussion.Has anybody contacted PSA/DNA or any other Autograph Authentication company or Forensic Handwriting Examiner? This is something that is needed and very important to the continuation of the case being discussed. Whether you agree with or respect the work of these authenticators, we must add their findings to the discussion.I would like to post for review some of the important items and examples of what is being examined and reviewed today..
A champagne color satin jumpsuit with large embroidered peacock logo on back. The jumpsuit was designed by Bill Whitten for the Jacksons' 1979 Destiny Tour. The jumpsuit has been signed in silver marker on left leg "Love Michael Jackson."
A Michael Jackson Tour "87" Japan itinerary signed on the second page in black marker "To Bush Michael Jackson Love."
1988 MJ tour shirt in the up coming auction said to have been signed by Michael Jackson.
A program from the 45th annual Academy Awards presentation held March 27, 1973, double signed by Michael Jackson. The cover is signed in black marker "Michael Jackson." The page listing Jackson as a nominee for Best Song is also signed in black marker "Love Michael Jackson." Jackson performed his hit single "Ben" at this ceremony.
A souvenir catalog of The Wiz (Universal, 1978) signed on page 18 in red marker "Love Michael Jackson."
Michael Bush hand signed items.
I agree that we should stick to THESE AUTOGRAPHS in THIS AUCTION. Other matters can be opened in a new thread so that we stick to the Tompkins Bush Auction this weekend.
Maybe Steve can move the threads or discussions that are not pertaining to this auction and these autographs to their own thread.
Thank you Michael for continuing to follow up with your expert opinions on the items from this auction.
