On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

He was contacted by Martin.

Veronica they tried to brush him off, they laughed at him when he said the item was forged, but Thomas stood his ground, he would not be deterred! I have had communication about Darren, he is supposedly out of town, but when he is back after New Year he will be  making refunds, i emailed you info about an attorney if you want to use, otherwise, telephone Darren and demand a refund, plus all out of pocket expenses, customs, shipping, but its best you let the attorney handle it,

Awesome!

I think he got in there early, and he's a frequent buyer, so he got treated differently from the fans who just bought single items.

Good for him, though!

Great for him.
I realize I'll never see my money again since I'm just a little person from nowhere. My chances to sell the jacket is =0 too.
I don't think that is true, Veronica. I think you are going to get your refund.
But how? If they ignore everyone who writes them and have a customer service who hang up and are nasty on the phone. I'm not sure how good it is for the jacket to be in the package either. Maybe I have to open the it.

Contact the lawyers you have been pointed to.

And say what? I´m sorry english is not my first language and I have no idea what to tell this lawyer.

The lawyers should be specialists in art law, auction law, and familiar with autographs and memorabilia. It will save a lot of time and mistakes.

And a reminder: Arbitration through JAMS is mandatory, which is probably a good thing in this case. I can't see how any class action or court case outside of arbitration will be allowed to proceed until JAMS arbitration is exhausted...and even then it's highly unlikely.

Can you explain JAMS for the folks (and for me?)   With Veronica in another country, how or what would be the process for her to start?

What a frustrating situation, I'm sorry you have to deal with it. According to their own terms and conditions they have to react to your concerns, so maybe it is time to be more forceful.

I'd definitely try to contact the lawyers who have been mentioned, or get legal advice. You registered your concern in writing in good time, you already have expert opinion from the authenticators in this discussion, so Julien's have no leg to stand on denying you due process.

Steve or somebody who knows the business, isn't there a trade association or somewhere to complain to?

And Veronica, no offense, but I really don't think it would be ethical trying to sell the jacket knowing the autograph is forged.
