Awesome collection you have there, I recently took history in my first year of university. Although I love history, I hate how it is taught in university haha. The civil war pieces you have seem amazing, would love to see some pictures!

Nice collection

Hey quick question. Where did you get the Elden Beers Tarawa survivor autograph? Got any pics? Just so happens I have burned Japanese flag from Tarawa picked up by him. He signed just below the flag in the frame. Doing a lot of research on him and would love to see what you have of him

Yep! That's mine! Ron Meyers? He has like 200 Japanese flags right? I would love to see your framed flag! I traced the third one to a VFW on the east coast and have been researching Elden Beers for five years now. He has one hell of a history attached to him.

The USMC vet /flamethrower that still does tours brought to mind one of my  Tarawa/Saipan sovenirs which consists of a flamethrower seared copper/brass bowl out of a Japanese General's bunker that was overun by our Marines. There was also a beautiful fan with a "Rising Sun" on one side and Japanese characters on the other, included were a couple of ornately braided tassels(purpose unknown) one of which has gold threads braided through it. I do have two letters of documentation by the Marine Capt. that brought these home. They are not for sale but I will share the photos.

neat beito souvenirs! They are so hard to come by these days. Only have a few things from Tarawa that ive been able to get over the past ten years. Nice to see one with documentation too!

Hi Ryan,

Yes, I have to admit that these items are quite rare and beautiful. The items came from the Japanese held island of Betio and were brought home by Captain Thomas Krueger of Cleveland Ohio Captain USMC who at the time was attached to 2nd Marine corps. They were captured from Commander R.A.DM. Keichi Shibasaki inside his command post. Please see the photos I left in my reply to Matt Snihur. Best.

Hey Matt,

I agree my little grouping is not only beautiful but quite rare. Captain Kreuger that captured the items was quite a letter writer as you can see by his reply to the Japanese General. I also have a picture of a picture that was from that area according to the note I found in my Dad's collections. My Dad was a WW II vet but from the European theatre, he passed away in January, he was my hero and quite a patriot, he insisted that all the boys in the family join the Army to "become men" and to become "responsible", that worked for 2 out of 5 (me and my brother) but to the end I believe he loved me and my brother most because we followed orders, he left me his militaria and my brother the good stuff, LOL. Here's some interesting stuff. Best.
