Hi everyone! I'm new on here and looking for your opinions on a piece that I just bought. I have just bought a cast signed Ghostbusters poster from Antiquities of California via their website. I have compared some of the signatures and they look alright from what I've seen, but then again I don't know anything about authenticating a signature.

This was a pretty expensive piece but I'm a huge fan and I've been looking for a real one for a long time. After doing some research on this website I have gotten a little weary about their authentications and was just wondering if you guys could help me out. I do want to stress however that so far their staff has been very kind and haven't given me a reason distrust them, but I feel that I should cover all of my bases. They claim that all of these signatures were done at the same time during a scheduled sitting.

I haven't received the poster yet so I will give you the pictures that I have, but I can post better ones in a few weeks when it comes in if needed.

Thanks for your opinions, this is a great web site!

Alright you guys seem to be of the opinion that these kinds of companies give refunds whenever asked as long as you are firm. No, they make money by only giving refunds if backed into a corner. Telling him that a bunch of guys that I don't know personally on a forum said its fake is hardly an argument that will get me anywhere. I have a golden week here to find some kind of evidence or a professionals word that this item is not legitimate.
I thank all of you for your help, but I want to be prepared when I call them on Monday, not just angry with no knowledge of autographs and no valid argument to get my money back in my account.

This is so much simpler than you're making it out to be; especially because you don't yet have the item in hand.

You're forgetting the fact that these people are scammers. An "expert opinion" will mean nothing to a dealer who is not legitimate in the first place. If you waste more money on "expert" authentication they're either going to respond by discrediting them or with more lies. They've already fed you BS Bill Murray stories. I've never seen a real Murray GB poster in my entire life.

You're just going to have to toughen up if you want a refund. Chances are these people know they're selling pretty fakes.

Tell them you've changed your mind due to serious doubts about authenticity. Tell them not to ship it and refund your card. Tell them if they wont you'll file a chargeback. If they still wont, file an immediate chargeback and cite the current Jackson scandal the vendor is involved in to your credit card company.

Frankly, this forum has gone above and beyond to help you with this... we've done just about everything but call the company for you. The rest is up to you. Good luck.

Tell them you have changed your mind and not to ship the item. If they decline, open a case on eBay. eBay sides with the buyer 99% of the time. These people know they're selling crap, most likely they'll refund you immediately to be done with it and not raise anymore eyebrows. They know someone else will buy it.

Absolute worst case go through your bank or credit card company to get the refund. End of discussion. Do not spend a DIME getting any professional opinion, it's not needed.

Some people are beyond help Bro how many times have we talked about this.

Brad,

Based on this statement alone that was made by you is why these forgers continue to sell these bad items on a daily basis.

"I thank all of you for your help, but I want to be prepared when I call them on Monday, not just angry with no knowledge of autographs and no valid argument to get my money back in my account."

Don't take it as an attack on you but buyers of autographs need to do their homework before they spend that kind of money on these obvious forgeries. Look at it this way, would you go and buy a house without it being inspected ahead of time? Would you buy a car based on looks without test driving it? It looks like the members here have given their honest opinion on this piece and it looks like everyone agrees that this is not an authentic items based on several facts.

It should not be that big of an argument to get a refund. Here is their "Guarantee"

Antiquities' customer service goal is simple: We are committed to providing our customers total satisfaction. Every time. Guaranteed. Contact Toby Stoffa directly at TLStoffa@AntiquitiesLV.com or for general inquiries at Info@AntiquitiesLV.com, or call (702) 792-2274 anytime.

If they have not yet shipped the item then call them first thing Monday morning, if they give you a hard time about cancelling your order I'd tell them you will file a chargeback and see what they say. If that gets you no where with them them get right back on the phone with your credit card company and file that chargeback, once you file that chargeback Antiquities will be notified either by email of through their bank that a chargeback was in fact filed I doubt they will ship it at that point. The other thing you can do is simply say your credit card was stolen or used without your permission.

I hope you are able to get your money back..

Look I have no problem calling them and demanding a refund, I just like to be prepared. I figure if I have extra time to pull facts together than I might as well. I'm an amateur with this and it shows.
I am very disappointed by this as I was really looking forward to getting these sigs.
Thanks for your help everyone.
Wow Tony thanks for saying I'm beyond help. I've tried to be very polite and respectful to all of you for trying to help.
Just because you guys have talked about this issue before doesn't mean I've ever had the privilege.
Don't look down on me just because you have information that I don't. I like to think I wouldn't do that to someone.

Brad, I really did not say that to be offensive. If your were I am very sorry, The Members on this forum are very passionate about there hobby. Most of them study hand writing as well there are also professionals here that also help out with things like this. I am not looking down on ya but what I am saying is that there are people that have basically given you a few options to take and should take.

I know you are a novice and everyone here has picked up a bad purchase at least once in their hobby it happens...There is some recourse you can take listen to these guys they know their stuff. Again I am sorry if I had offended you.

Thanks to both of you guys, I think I just misunderstood your post. I really do appreciate what everyone is telling me, and be reassured that I'm taking all of your advice.
I'm just frustrated and angry. I couldn't imagine taking advantage of someone the way they have.

Just to be clear I want to thank everyone helping me right now, and I'm sorry that we had that misunderstanding Tony.
This kind of situation can make a person feel pretty dumb.

This hobby, while it can be fun and interesting, is generally a minefield.  Many of the people on this forum are good at navigating it, basically because they've hit a mine or two (or dozens) during their collecting.

What's really sad Brad is this happens every single day in the thousands of numbers.  It is really really sickening that scammers and forgers don't even flinch about what they're doing - unless they have detectives/FBI crawling on their arses.

I hope this all turns out well for you, and please stick around afterward.  If you have any other items you want to buy, send them in here first for an opinion.  The folks around here are very generous in wanting to truly help.  Nobody here wants to feed the forgery business.

I just checked out their website.  What a joke.  Beatles albums signed for 14K.   and not one photo is large enough for you to actually see the signature on the item.  What a bunch of scammers.  but their policy says it all.....
