Heritage is a good outfit, but I don't think they offer a guarantee of authenticity for the signed memorabilia they sell. That's not unusual among auction houses, but it means that they don't have much skin in the game.

Sotheby's and Cristie's, on the other hand, offer a five year guarantee. And other auction houses, like RRAuction and Profiles in History, offer a lifetime guarantee of authenticity. I would not buy anything from an auction house that doesn't have a meaningful guarantee of authenticity without having it checked out before I bought it.

I agree Steve. RR Auction is in my opinion one of the best auction houses out there.

Steve, that is a terrific point. Even five years is better than nothing. Lifetime guarantees are nice, but truthfully, sellers pass away or close up shop....

If you do your homework ahead of time and keep your purchases to unquestionable examplars or impeccable provenance, five years is enough to get other opinions if you still have doubts.

Though you have to love R and R 's lifetime. As well as Jeff Gold with Record Mecca. It feels really good to buy something from someone who believes in what they are selling to the point where they guarantee as long as they are around.
