It looks to me like it's authentic, but I cannot tell for sure.

Yes, I have collected and studied vintage autographs now for about ten years, and if you take a look at his other signatures, they look just like this one.

Some Christy Mathewson signatures still appear to be very dark, even though they were signed a long time ago.

Yeah, crazy concept for a ball from the 1920s, eh? Why would a forger use a ball from the 1920s? They are hard to obtain.
