I purchased this in 1998 and have always wondered about its authenticity. A bit of perspective - it would have been signed between 1988 (album release) and 1993 (name change). I think that it would have been signed post-1988 as it does not include God or '88 in the signature as the ones I've seen from his Lovesexy signings do; also, the LP sleeve is 'notched' in the top corner indicating that the unsigned LP itself was most likely sold at a discount (so likely post-'88). A friend who spent many years in Minneapolis immersed in Princedom in the early nineties thinks it's real as it resembles real signatures she saw at the time, but thinks that it was a rush job as it is a 'sloppy version of his signature.' Any opinions would be welcome - thanks!

Hi Lorne,
I have studied prince a good bit, and i am sorry to say that i dont believe this is genuine. There are alot of things that i see wrong with it. The whole formation of the salutation and name are off. Even when Prince was in a hurry, he kept certain things consistent, and i see none of those here. IN my opinion this is an amateur forgery.
A couple of things to note, is how slowly drawn parts look. But thats minor compared to other things such as the R and N formation in Prince. He never made them like your example. The P is also a mess, and nowhere near the way Prince formed his P's. Also note the O in Love. Notice how the forger started the O on the right side, and then looped back aroundto the left and into the rest of the signature. Prince didnt do that. When he made his O's in Love, he always did the opposite. He started the O on the left side, then looped around to the right side and finished the salutation.
Wait for more opinions, but i feel confident this is a fake. Prince is one of the most forged rock signatures out there, unfortunately. Hope you might be able to contact the original seller and talk about a refund.
I have to say that this signature don't have the characters of a genuine Prince signature. I think Carl Ryan have said it best.
Thank you all very much for your feedback, especially Carl Ryan for his detailed explanation. Disappointed to hear that it's fake but enough time has passed that it doesn't sting as much as if I'd recently been scammed.
Beware buying Prince autographs. This guy is a tough signer and nicely signed things will be rare.
