I'm interested in getting this hat. Any ideas on price? Starting bid is at $350. Seems good for a MACCA auto

Looks like it's from that period. The fabric on the hat soaks up so much of the marker. It has a good chance of being authentic. I'm not a fan of signed music items on shirts and hats.

I compared the writing on the cap to other McCartney writing and the style and pitch is quite different.

Does Roger not comment on this site anymore? This would be a good one for him to comment on to clear some things up... I still don't think the hat is authentic.

Ask Roger im on the fence with it.

Two things. First, I'm on the fence with it, leaning more towards thinking it's authentic. Second, if somebody is going to forge it...they would NOT personalize it, as that not only takes the value down a notch (since most people aren't named "Don"), and it's more writing that wouldn't be in the persons hand, and easier to spot as a forgery. Just something to think about.

you point is well taken, Josh.  but I can't help but feel that this has was signed by a right-handed person.

look at the handwriting on Paul's example. Typical left handed perpendicular letter formation.  this hat slants to the right.  that is what bothers me the most.  that and the funky "r', which I have never seen before.

I agree with you terrier. Looks like a right handed person which may not be the curve of the hat. If it was on a flat piece of paper I'd say no.

It looks very similar to this signed book (which has been discussed here before and was deemed authentic).. The only "difference" I see is that the line under "2001" looks like its signed from the right on the book but from left on the cap...

this one is classic.  perfect full McCartney signature.there are similarities but the P's are totally different and the slant of that "t" still bugs me, as does the droop in the "r".

I would lean towards authentic after looking at these two side by side, I can see what some of the issues may be. If you look at the "To Dou" (sp?) and "love" and even the spacing of the comma it matches. Unless someone was trying to copy this book sig onto this cap, it is pretty convincing. Was there a book signing in Aspen by chance? Or did the same person have the cap signed as the same time as the book?

That would be the only thing I'd worry about, however for a signed cap, I'd probably just keep looking for something better then have doubt in it.

Comparing with lots of genuine autographs written in 2001 this autograph is a fake, 100%. Beginning with the "T" at "To" and the line under "2001" there are so many faults in this writing.

On balance I do not think this looks authentic. Overall, if there is no clear consensus on this (and there obviously istn't ), then I would stay clear of it
