Joe DiMaggio opinion please

Can I get any opinions on this Joe DiMaggio ball (Budig)?

Learning a lot here - getting comfortable with Mickey but having harder time with Joe.

Someone posted a Joe D ball like this awhile back. This is the exact type of Joe D signature that I am not comfortable giving a thumbs up or thumbs down on. It shows ZERO signs of speed/fluidity/or the typical fury of ripping through a signature that Joe would do. It shows ZERO signs of his sloppiness characteristics. I do not like the "gg"s at all, they are too elementary. The whole signature is too neat, too bold. And yet I would not be surprised if it was authentic. If it came with JSA or PSA/DNA I would have to trust their opinion on it, but I know I would not touch this ball if I saw it uncertified on eBay.

Here's a picture where I have circled some typical Joe D characteristics. You also just get a "feel" for his sloppiness:

Ryan - Thanks for the extra lesson. Seems like you have to walk a fine (or ragged) line between a real Joe D and a total mess - I've seen too neat (mine?) and ones that were so bad that even if it were authentic, would you want it on your shelf? Without getting good at analyzing the signature, mine looks pretty good. It does not have a COA - from a friend who thought he bought it from a good seller in 2006/07. If this one isn't real, he will buy it back (when he gets a job) but now I really want to have one in my new collection.

Throw it up on eBay and get a PSA/DNA Quick Opinion for $10 and let us know the results.

Yes you keep it up until you get your e-mail response. It's usually within 24 hours or so. List it as 5-7 day auction with a ridiculous starting bid like $1,000+ or something, then here is the link to PSA/DNA quick opinion, with instructions:

I agree with Ryan. and I will go further and say that even if it passed JSA or PSA, I would not want it in my collection.

me neither. there are so many of these DiMaggio Style only found on Budig balls, and sometime come with "Clipper Enterprise" certification. I do not believe this style is authentic. I personally hate the J and especially the "o" & "make believe "e", The o is laughable and shares characteristics of other more putrid fakes Don't like the D at all either.

Some nut job that paid millions for these balls from Morris Dingleberry picked "these balls up from Joe's apartment." It's almost as ludicrous as the Mickey Mantle Story that was passed around last month. I hate the signature and suspect it is not real. If by some chance it might be, it's still a mess. I do not believe it will pass PSA or JSA for whatever that's worth.

Thanks for all the feedback - especially the passionate feelings against this signature. Great learning experience. Sorry I don't have any other color on what the original listing had to say from 8 or 9 years ago when my friend bought the ball - he could not locate order info (I had asked him who the eBay seller was when I started trying to figure out if this was a good ball figuring that might shed some light).
Will let you know if I submit for quick opinion.
On a positive note, Ryan liked the Mickey ball I posted on his 'most common Mantle forgeries & how to avoid' discussion so I am confident I have some good pieces here as well.
Will be posting some others soon. Thanks, Ryan for other feedback you have given me.

I used to have one of those "Yankee Clipper" balls. I bought it in the late '90s. But I know what you mean, Fuddjcal. I'm not sure if all those supposedly from the estate were authentic. Didn't it come out that the Morris guy, Joe's attorney, actually "helped" Joe by signing many balls for him? I thought there was a story about that at some point.

You never knew with Joe. If he liked you, you would get a really nice, beautiful signature. If he was in a mood, which was often, it could look pretty bad. I have been in both situations with him. When he signed a few baseballs, they were awesome. Then when I handed him my home plate, signed by 44 hall of famers, he didn't give his best effort because he didn't want to sign equipment that day. When I asked him to add HOF and his year, like all the other players, he got mad. Unfortunately, I had a 16x20 photo left for him to sign and it looked like a two year old signed it. Can't diaplay it and can't give it away.
