Hi- Opinions being sought on the possible authenticity of the following David Bowie signed photos. Regarding the first. an "Aladdin Sane" head shot, I was first thrown off by the vertical "spine" of the first "D" in David being offset to the right of the curve rather than before it. Seems like too obvious an error for a forger to make though- maybe just due to Bowie signing too fast? I did eventually locate an example that is similar though (see below). The first photo is followed firstly by a close-up of the same signature, then the above-mentioned example of a similar signature. Finally, please see the 2nd "Serious Moonlight" in-concert photo seeking your judgement. It too is followed by a similar example. Any and all opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I have never seen anything like the first (1st shown twice) or second. The third (framed) appears his - but it is too modern for me to say and looks a little drawn and neat. At a glance,# 3 appears of the right basic form but looks hesitant and he is, I believe, usually smooth quick loops that are rather similar to each other. Date placement seems odd, overall slant seems off but again - this is way late for me. Perhaps it is good - I know the 1970's and just a bit there. I believe Bowie signs left handed. #4 apparently is genuine from what is shown.
Here is mine 1976. From what I have seen, prior to this, around 1970, his handwriting was much more "happy", legible and bouncy with a circle for the "i" dot (sometimes signed "David Jones" C. 1968/9), and then the mid/late 70'ds as I have shown "Bo--(e?) '76", and then started to reappears like that C. 1981 before Serious Moonlight and then became something like the last posted in the OP by well before Outside and after the mid/late 80s..."stuff" and on to Outside and after
Hope this helps,

PS - I find numbering the scans to be helpful so it is clear who is saying what about which. I just got really confused and I'm the only response so far!
Thanks for your reply on this and my Madonna post. I was considering keeping pic #1 because I desperately want an example of this image but, after some consideration and research (and kind help from people like you!) I've decided to pass on it. The white suit with blue lighting profile pic (Serious Moonlight Tour) is a purchase I made a while back and I hope is authentic. As for your example, I've seen similar examples of Bowie's that resemble your sig, usually in complete form with the "owie" added. The "i" is usually dotted too, just like this. I like it. What's with the accompanying ticket stub and live action shot...were you at this gig? DO tell!
Hello,
Thanks - glad you like it. I find this Bowie a rather typical 1976-78 signature. The complete forms pre-date and post-date the Thin White Duke period from what I have seen. The ticket and original slide are just things I collected to accompany the signature. I have seen him front and center do Aladdin Sane on his knees, and Moonage Daydream with all the old mime moves, and more - but not this Stage show in '78. I wish I did! I always collect an original still, photo, ticket or whatever to go with what I have acquired. See my "KRAFTWERK" set in "My Page" for another example. I just added a photo showing my first autograph - David Byrne in Central Park 25 years ago!
Your Serious Moonlight item - would need a better scan to say anything reasonable. What did you pay and where might I ask?
Eric
I paid something like $30 or something as an opening bid on an eBay listing from the U.K. that was incorrectly categorized and, as a result, received very few views and no additional bids. It was listed by a Seller who was a long-time member in good standing and, from the looks of his inventory, wasn't making his living off of selling autographs. I almost never buy from "established" autograph dealers on eBay because I find that most list huge quantities of painfully obvious fakes. To make matters worse, they boast seemingly inexhaustible quantities, as if Bowie or Madonna are going to take the time to give out multiple perfectly executed signatures. But if I find an autograph that, upon inspection, speaks to my gut, comes from an inconspicuous seller, and can be had at a reasonable price I will sometimes take a chance on it. P.S.- I like your routine for collecting supporting memorabilia for each of your signatures. I might have to start following your example. BTW- did you have an opinion on the black sharpie Madonna example in my other post (see below)?
Hello again,
Well, I was commenting on the missing letter only - the Madonna's are much to recent for me and one can't see much with this modern ink. The Bowie you have looks hesitating/odd/drawn - very neat. This and the other appears a bit neat and legible - you say this was deemed good by many. What do you think? Is this a totally typical construction of the "M"?
Eric
