The only Elizabeth Taylor signature I currently own is a mid-50's in-person example obtained by my Grandfather on the set of Raintree County. Would not help you in this current discussion. I, personally would not consider any Elizabeth Taylor later in life signatures or signed photos without a salutation or inscription. I do hope someone can add something here to clarify your inquiry. I just don't think Elizabeth signed this herself.

joe how do you know she didnt without any recent in person examplars to go on..and dont forget,she had a stroke which can change anybodys signature traits,,if somebody shows me a definitive ip from 2005 onwards and its nothing like above i will accept it,,but until then the jury is still out

How would you know she did? Exactly my point. I am not out to prove or disprove anything. I simply responded with my opinion. I have no more fruit to bear on this discussion. I do hope others will chime in with more helpful information for you.

Hi Joe,

 I figured. I just wanted to show what I was seeing. I believe it is reasonable to expect a level of thoughtful  accuracy from those exemplars and the way they have been identified, dated and arranged.

Eric, you would make a great scientist or instructor. I, on the other hand, just go my gut reaction along with having seen so many examples of certain signers. Certain signatures scream authentic to me and others warn me to run, run, run!

Hello automan,

I think assuming it is not authentic until there is reason to think otherwise, and a way of explaining the secretarials at thecead.com, is the safest course with regard to authenticity. As you say, she signed very little etc. after the 90's, so you are essentially agreeing it is unikely.

From what I have come to understand is that Elizabeth was an autograph collector herself and she was generous when signing. Her usual style was to add a salutation or inscription but not always. I would say in her later years she was receiving far more requests and time to sign. Health issues also prevailed which probably affected her signature. I can imagine that she may have been impressed with a gift, card, or a well worded letter to respond with a personal response. But, not that often. Every good Hollywood collection should include this lovely and gifted actress. My preference would be a vintage signature in her prime.

Hi Joe,

I read that as well about Taylor collecting. The OP's posted signature seems much to legible and ordered for 2010, secretarials etc. aside. I agree -  for me a signed photo from Virgina Woolf would be great!
