Al Jardine authenticated a RUSHED Brian Wilson signature (video)

I came across this listing on ebay

http://m.ebay.com/itm/Brian-Wilson-Al-Jardine-Signed-Pet-Sounds-Bea...

It has a video of Al authenticating a really rushed (to say the least) Brian Wilson graph. Pretty funny! While I believe it is Brian's, do you think it is reasonable for a bandmate to be able to authenticate another members signature?

I say Al has got it right a forger would put more effort into signing the album.

But in the case of bandmates saying that's authentic or not, I don't think their qualified enough because that's why they have fde in court etc.

I agree, pretty funny comment he made "schizophrenic" haha

Schizophrenic signature.

I heard a story of Brian and Ozzy meeting a the rehearsals for the queen jubilee and apparently they were walking towards each other nodding and Brian asked Qzzy where the toilet was, Ozzy replied he doesn't know after Ozzy walks up to Tony and says maybe I should have followed him!

Because they both don't know where they are half the time, drug abuse has taken it's toll.

You should read this from what Alice Cooper said about Brian and John Lennon.

It's amazing both of those guys are alive.

I know, Brian has such OCD too. I watched and read a ton on him and his obession with Phil Spector and The Ronnettes "Be My Little Baby."

I will say he is very interesting to say the least! I hope a real well made documentary comes out specifically on his life one day.
Most of these guys are struggling with their health, bill wyman, Tony iommi have cancer,,their all in the 70s.

Your first sentence is the problem. People who think like that are just setting themselves up to be hosed.

I'll use Idina Menzel as an example. Nightly, after her shows, she signs for the hordes at the stage door. But due to the crowds, she doesn't sign "Idina Menzel"--she essentially squiggles.

So what's a smart forger going to do: try to sell a couple pristine full signature "Idina Menzel" for a couple hundred dollars or try to sell several "squiggle" signatures for a few bucks each?

It'll net the same profit in the end, but given the chance to compare the two, people in the know would say "Well, the latter is how she signs most of the time, so I'm going to avoid the full signature without more solid proof" & the rest will follow your line of thinking & say "Well, I don't know much about Idina, but I don't think the squiggles are forged, because otherwise the forger would've gone for the big bucks".

If that's how Brian signs most of the time, that's how a smart forger would sign it--they'd put the same effort into it that Brian does, not a bit more.

And I hate to tell the person selling it, but authentic or not, it's not worth £300!
Haha, Devon these prices on ebay are another story altogether! Craziness!
AGREED, Adam! Unbelievable what some people ask...and even more shocking what some people pay!

Most celebrities can't even authenticate their own signature, let alone someone else's.

Seriously, try it. Find a really good forger and ask celebrities if they signed the item. Short of cases where they know they'd never sign that particular item or use that particular color, most don't know what to look for to the extent that they can give a well-reasoned answer.

The most they or their associates can do, which is pretty much the most Al can do (unless he remembers watching Brian sign that exact item, which doesn't), which is all Al did, is to say that they've used/seen that style used before.
