Hi Folks,

Here is my new David Bowie autographed double-disc CD with discs/booklet. A Reality Tour gatefold CD signed in silver paint pen in 2010 (year of issue) in what was likely some sort of in person situation. I have not seen many signed anything from the last years of his life apart from the books and cards and such, so to me this is a small coup and the price was very good. Have you seen many signed CD’s or LP’s from these last years? I see the scuffs and smudge, but I also see decent contrast and decent/balanced placement (a departure from the usual down-and-right slant but certainly not without precedent). Dated signatures after 2003/4 seem pretty tough. And this is his last live album with a good cover photo as well. What little I have seen from 2010 usually does not have the “dot” over the “i”. I caught this tour at Jones Beach Theatre and it was quite good with Hallo Spaceboy, Station to Station and Diamond Dogs etc. Some will see this signature as rushed but I see this as a style going back to 1980 – the Scary Monsters and Aladdin Sane albums made out to industry someone-or-other “Mike” come to mind – same form here. Sure, I would prefer a lengthy dedication/ inscription, but that’s not to be had here.

So, what do you think of this example? I guess I have to add that this tour is the last time I saw him, so it really resonates personally. I remember him singing “Aoooooh!…Bow wow…Woof woof!” at the climax of Diamond Dogs, and that really thrilled me. And the 5 Years, Suffragette City/Ziggy ending…that was the last thing I saw him do, Ziggy Stardust. “Not only is it the last show of the tour…” First thing I ever saw him do was Space Oddity, so good memory bookends.

He played it "left hand", with screwed up eyes and all, and with one original Spider on keyboards he did kill us by smiling. And as always, he gave all he could.

Thanks for your opinions/posts.

Eric

PS: Below is a list I wrote for a friend here – I ran this through and came out OK I think. The list need work, and your additions.

In no order here are some things I think about (NOT comprehensive – add your own criterion):

Original/virgin /untrimmed 1st gen photo/item/LP/CD (no tape, folds, spots, restoration etc – considering item/age/other factors)?

Vintage as possible? Recent? Common? Scarce/rare?

Is the autograph contemporary to the item/photograph, or added later?

Best condition possible (considering above etc.)?

Best quality photo (1st generation/original release/candid)/”Official” item”/product (album, CD, ticket, promo, key photo etc.)?

Best inscription (if any possible)/dedication/dated?

Fountain, ballpoint or fiber/felt? Pencil? Other?

Optimal contrast/placement? Ink color clash with item/image?

Clear example/preferably no smudging from signing/fading/etc.?

What else can I buy with this amount of $?

Recent auction/sale results for like material?

Is the signature interesting/unusual/unique without the photo/item?

Frequency of items with comparable presentation?

Comparison to similar for quality - mediocre or exceptional?

How does this fit in with other items I have collected using similar criterion? Display?

It the item is too big? Small? Is the autograph lost or overpowering?

Is this same item offered anywhere else online for more/less?

Hello Folks,

Bowie is here and I have finally had a better chance to examine it - condition is MUCH better than the scan! :) No scuffs, must have been on the scanner. No specks, smudge is light. There are two slight "puckers" on the right that might be from manufacturing as they are on the back as well - I did not realize this opens out triple. New scan coming!

Best wishes,

                  Eric

Hi All,

Condition seems 8.5/ of 10 easy. Final bump for comments,, bad or good on this item - all welcome.

Thank you in advance,

                                Eric

Eric, did you provide a new scan? Sounds like you did well my friend.

I had to repost this as I made an error that needing fixing. Sorry.

Hello All,

After looking for a while, I have found one CD signed in 2008, and one other example (below) of this triple gate-fold CD signed in silver and dated "'10" that sold at auction much earlier this year with JSA papers from 2015 for $1,500/Best Offer. My cost was, happily, lower. The example shown below matches an ISOLAR card I had and a few others that were sold (also below), apart from the "B" not being open a bit...the same handling of the "owie".

When I get the chance, I will take a new scan of mine, as the scan I posted here totally misrepresents the item - there are no scuffs etc. It appears in the same condition as the example below. Smudge is slight. I looked at it again last night - shocked to see the condition in almost literally mint -  I had to confirm my memory! I thought I must have missed something.

Best wishes,

                Eric

And here is another ISOLAR card, adjusted for angle as the one above, that bears a signature quite like the one on the CD I won (shown at top of this page). I have got to make a new scan - you won't believe your eyes. I cringe thinking of the scanner bed my CD was on that had all that whatever on it - but better there than on the CD! I really was ready to accept the disc as it looks in the scan! Never imagined this outcome as possible.

Best wishes,

                Eric
