I’ve heard that there are stories of provenance that came with some of the cheap Macca “signed” items sold on Mercari, and that one of the sellers claimed to have worked very hard to obtain them.

What to think. I know I have found things I shouldn't have for pennies on the buck but they didn't raise questions and were raw. I like finding them that way.

The new ones that were on Mercari at high asking prices are no longer there. They weren't marked as sold, but just disappeared.
