Barnes and Noble pre-order was easy enough to cancel.

Wow, that's wild. At least this news came out early enough that people have plenty of time to cancel their preorders if they don't want a stamp. (I still haven't seen how these copies got out so early).

Someone on twitter claimed that their Waterstone's order was automatically cancelled this morning because of the news - can anyone else confirm this?

Also, only semi-related, but her twitter situation is weird. She has two accounts? Only one is verified, but she typically tweets from the other?

Yes, Waterstones cancelled my order "Unfortunately, we have been informed by the publisher that they will not now be releasing signed copies of 'Rememberings' by Sinead O'Connor. In light of this, we've been forced to cancel your order and we are very sorry for the disappointment that this may cause." Well, at least I don't have to go through cancelling the order myself.

Im sure booksellers everywhere are thrilled with this revelation. What a waste of everyone’s time!

I just received an email from Premiere that because the signatures are not authentic they will offer a $10 refund if you want to keep the book or you can have a full refund. They will be pulling the title as they aim to sell only authenticated signatures.

Like music, almost every book title is now selling a signed version to increase sales. Consumers are going to have to be very diligent about how the books are prepared.

As Sinead noted, 10,000 books to sign is a near impossible task for anyone. I also thought signed copies of anything had to range at 1,000 tops for a real signature. Who can sign that much?

As I said in another thread, Im actually a fan of her music. Not a fan of her behavior. Signing autographs really isnt back-breaking work. Its a matter of wanting to do it for your fans (if not for contractual reasons). Taylor Swift has signed untold numbers over the last 2 yrs.
250 a day would get you close to 10K over a year. Poor celebrities and these unfair demands!

Hopefully, she'll find some way to make it up to her fans.

I also cant do math this early in the morning. Just goes to show how absurd her excuse is though, really.

I think you'd be surprised at how many releases have had many more than 1,000 signed copies. On the book side of things Anna Kendrick, Carrie Underwood, Jim Carrey, Natalie Portman, Jerry Seinfeld, and Matthew McConaughey are all big names and still signed thousands.

On the music side Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and Taylor Swift have all had recent releases with  tens-of-thousands of signed copies.

I agree that it sounds like a tough task, but it definitely can be done, especially with so many books having tip-ins now. They just get a big box of blank paper to sign over and over and these are later bound into the books.

As M alluded to, plenty of celebs have signed thousands of items. Taylor Swift is now apparently well north of 100,000 over the past year. Halsey did 40,000+ last year. Dodie Clark just signed 10,000 items for her debut. Katy Perry did somewhere between 5-10,000 last year. Shawn Mendes did several thousand CDs. Springsteen did several thousand books on his book tour. I can go on.

Of course, many more can't be bothered. Bieber, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, etc. The good news is that more people fulfill their obligations than don't. In Sinead's case, I passed because I was never a big fan and she's had some well-documented struggles that made the outcome of this "signing" questionable at best.

I just don't get why she didn't agree to cap off the signings to an amount that she thought she could handle signing. I guess she thought doing the autostamp wouldn't be a big deal.

what a waste of my time. how does she get away with putting signed copy stamp on the book if it’s not really signed. like she has anything else to do because the 80s are over . at least  make some money by scribbling your damm name. what a joke! good thing for this site because i can waste my time now cancelling instead of after i get it and have to go to a store and waste more time to. nobody wants the book well at least i don’t lol
