These sketches all have Marilyn’s signature. Do they look correct and does anyone know…. were these drawn by Marilyn? Sincere thanks for comments and/or additional information!

Hello,

I have asked Pauline to have a look at both threads. These are color copies of some kind (printed when? Post 62?) - the margins are a different paper of the work shows this. I don't think I'd expect good news.

Thanks for the heads up Eric. It's been a while!

I would need to spend a bit of time on these mysterious pictures and signings.

I'll be back soon.

Hi Pauline! Thank you! Steverino should thank you as well. It's good to see you here :-)

Sincere thanks to both of you for taking the time to comment.  These were allegedly professionally copied from someone's originals and we're just trying to find out if these might be original art or cleverly created forgeries.  Here are a couple more from this group:

Hi Steverino

Only the picture in the middle signed MM Hollywood 1949 looks like her writing, so you can dismiss the other two pieces of art as frauds. Seeing the Vivien Leigh picture makes me doubt the Laurence one now, and yes, I was deceived by the similarity to the picture I posted. That signature in the Laurence picture you posted is also not correct.  But, the Laurence portrait I posted is absolutely genuine, as it was on stationery she wrote and scribbled on during the filming of The Prince and the Showgirl, whilst in the UK.

Please see a similar signing for the word "Hollywood" printed by Marilyn's own hand. Although the H is different I have also seen the written H look the same as in the second picture above.

This is what the real Marilyn Monroe Miller signature should look like:

Hi Steverino

UPDATED POST:

This drawing by Marilyn of Laurence Oliver I have posted is authentic and in the book Fragments, full of her poetry, scribblings etc. But now I see the other sketches you have posted, I can see this is more likely a series of frauds based on the real image below.

So going on signature only, which is the only thing I actually know - I should not comment on the art, especially since it seems this is now a new area of fraud regarding Marilyn, sadly - I find on your original posting, picture 1, 4 and 5 more similar to authentic signatures, 2 and 3, definitely not. Perhaps 1,4 and 5 are just better frauds. . . . I am reaching that conclusion.

Pauline, thank you so much for this information and your detailed reply.  I thought you would be the 'go-to' person for these - so, if I'm understanding correctly, the signatures on some, but not all, appear to be hers.  I did try to do my own research on these but like you mentioned, Google and other search engines weren't too much help and I was unable to find anything comparable.  Thanks again!!

Steve

Here is a reference in regards to the signing on the "Paula Strasberg" picture. The longer I look at these though, the more I think they are fraudulent, some research behind these frauds though.

That is what I thought Pauline, but then, I am not you! :-)

Hi Eric

I am always wanting to "believe", silly naive me :-)

Yes, likely every single one of these are fraudulent, but as I say, one or two signatures are good frauds. Not sure on the Norma Jeane items on the other thread, shall look at those next.

Thank you. Your posts are among the best and I enjoy talking with you. Remember the Vegas Menu? :-) That was fun to track down as fake from the state tax and ads. IIRC it was a 53 sig on a 60 menu.

Hi Eric

Thank you, that cheered me up, have been having a strange week, and it's good to get back to Marilyn's signature.

Yes, so much fun being "detectives" together with members such as yourself Joining together all our different areas of knowledge. Fun "busting" things!

I need to look longer before I comment. Too eager!

The Norma Jeane ones on the other thread have a nice overall shape, but most of the details are consistently wrong.  There are a few similar things, especially the capital letters, but the lower case is where the "devil in the detail" shows what they are.
