I am really trying to understand Mantle signatures.  I feel very confident with many baseball superstars that I have studied over the years, but I just cannot wrap my arms around this.

Please take a look at this signature.  this is in no way questioning, JSA, PSA, or the seller.  Make sure you look at the enlarged photo.  The "Mantle" looks spot on.  But what about "Mickey"?  I have seen many forgeries with that extended loop on the first M, and if you look closely, it looks a little choppy.  As do other parts of Mickey. Again, I am really looking for an education here. CEE GEE?  anyone?

I agree - who is Mantle ANYway -LOL ROFL - yep i have heard of him - i think??!!

We don't play base ball in OZ ( well some do but it is not a religion like you guys regard it)

We do have some aussie basketball players- and they do play in US - can't remember they're name though - some tall blondie women from Albury NSW that has one the last umpteem number of years MVP for the women and some young guy that seems to be doing alright?????!!! - bogart/bogarde/Bogut HHum - something like that???!!

Imagine what would happen if we let more of our stars go to US???!! LOL ROFL - It would mean that we would have to stop expanding our current league???!!!

regards

Grant

PS - Yep i definitive study on Mantle would help us all

oh man, I am sorry!  now I can't even find the one I was questioning!  there are a lot on ebay with the longer loop in the first M, but this one was really elongated and a little choppy.

Maybe I still have the link on my Mac at home, when I copied and and forgot to paste!

I found it!

Again, just looking for an education.  Note the formation of the first M, and what appears to be some shakiness on the bottom loop.  Look under the enlarged photo.

Terrier...that's one cherry Mantle...the price and the bids really reflect how true and wanted this piece really is...

CEE GEE did you look at it closely?  the enlarged photo?  look at the K, it looks like it was written over?  and the elongation of the M.....everything else looks so good, but those things bother me!

That's an absolute 100% Mickey Mantle sig.

I see exactly what you are saying Terrier. The overly exaggerated loop on the first M... the "Milkey Mautle" appearance...

I have developed a decent eye for Mantle, but am no expert. I find it hard to believe that PSA and JSA would both pass a clunker. That said, I would not want this ball. Even presuming it's real, it it too close to the fake archetype for my taste.

I agree with zipper, only if PSA or JSA made a mistake on this I believe the other one would pass it based on it already being authenicated by the other, I doubt that JSA would ok it but when PSA looked at it they would say JSA was wrong. I think if one passed something the other would to just based on each others reputation I haven't heard of something failing one but passing the other.

Zipper, that was my feeling. that extended loop on the first M is so close to the blatant forgeries that I certainly would not want it.  its a strange signature because the Mantle appears to be right on.

what concerns me is that when you look at a perfect mantle signature, and there are thousands of them out there, you know it right away.  but if you look on ebay right now, there are a lot of authenticated balls that have that borderline extended loop.  It really makes you wonder.

As far as it being less desirable to most...I don't think its a fake...I didn't even realise it was authenticated by PSA and JSA...not typical...elongated etc. But I really don't think its phony...I got to check on the computer tomorrow

CEE, take a really close look at the M and the formation of the K.  Again, Im not saying its fake, its just strange.
