Just picked this up and wondered if anyone could give me insight into whether this is legit or not

Your image didn't post. You can uploaded in a reply by clicking on the second button from the left in the reply box's edit toolbar. Then just select the image from your computer or URL and click save.

A mess on so many levels unfortunately Drew. You can even look at it sideways and anyone with just a slight grasp of his signature can easily tell it's an easy to spot fake.

It would also be of significant note that in all my years collecting Mantle's sigs, I HAVE NEVER seen that photo with a legitimate Mantle Signature. If there was one, it would probably be worth 150-200.00. You probably paid less than a bill for that mess, so run like rabbit with thorn in paw to get your money back, or chalk it up to a bad experience and try to learn what your aiming to buy next time. I can tell you that there isn't just one thing wrong with the auto. The entire auto has indicators that mantle himself did not sign the photo. Sorry. Make sure you get a refund!

Im sorry not to respond right away, had to go out for M day stuff. Everybody is getting gun shy on giving reasons how they tell forgeries because forgers monitor this site for tips ! Im not a big Mantle specialist here ( Williams, Terrier, Fudd, Ryan) but could immediately tell the first name was butchered. the signature didn't have a natural flow, I would dare to say The Mick probably wouldn't sign on his crotch like that. The problem is that there are literally thousands of mantle forgeries. some sellers knowingly sell them while others are just ignorant to their authenticity. One way or another it's not fun spending your hard earned money on trash.

I think most members on this forum have been tricked at least once...which is why we learn to spot for ourselves.
