Think this '51 J DiMaggio ball is worth $200?

It would be nice to have a good DiMaggio signature from his playing days for this cheap, but does the inscription lower the value significantly enough to bring it under $200? It's hard to judge how much an inscription hurts the value, so I'd appreciate any opinions.

Sig is worth it, but the shellac devalues it.

I hadn't even thought about the shellac. Thanks for bringing it up. Any opinion on value withe inscription and shellac, assuming it's authentic?

If you do, then grab it!!!

Don't concern yourself about the "value."

Do you want to have it in your collection?

If all you're concerned with "Is what it might sell for in the future" then you probably shouldn't buy it.

Thanks, but I don't see it that way. I want it for my personal collection, but I still want to pay in the range of what it's actually worth. For people of limited means, it seems silly not to let value be a consideration.

Mark, I understand. and can appreciate your patience.

If you feel you really want to own it, then buy.

At the same time,  you may want to wait for a better opportunity.

I own a vintage Joe DiMaggio autograph that is on the inside cover of a book.  It's inscribed to a female and I got it for a decent price (under $200.00).

That Joe DiMaggio is on a baseball.  That's cool.

Your choice, your decision.

Even shellacked, I find it attractive.

I agree. I personally think it's a gorgeous signature, and I think the inscription adds character. The whole thing looks great.

I think $200 or under is fair for a vintage DiMaggio ball... even with personalization. The shellac on a vintage ball doesn't bother me and this one still presents well. How much cheaper could anyone expect to get an era signed DiMaggio ball?

If you like it, go for it.

What kind of baseball is it? If it is an OAL Harridge baseball it is certainly worth the $200 price.

absolutely agree.  I was wondering the same thing.  more important than the shellac and personalization.  if that is a vintage AL ball, signed by Joe D during his playing career, 200 would be a steal.
