This one was obtained in person a long time ago.

Thanks for the in person example, these OP examples are earlier years however there's comparable flow.

Second one is definitely real if live ink. First one is a tough call.

Thanks for the help, I'm trying to gain confidence in determining an opinion rather than second guessing myself. I definitely put in the work researching before I add signatures to my collection. That's the fun of it, being able to look at a signature and know that my collection is real. IMO I think both signatures are authentic. What is a flag to you that makes you not sure about the top one? I'm not questioning your opinion, I just want to learn if I'm missing something. Thanks again

The first one is probably real but it just doesn't have the "confidence" to me in the way Ripken signs. Maybe he was trying a new way of signing but for the discoloration and "iffyness" to it I would pass unless you absolutely needed it.

I have a nice framed newer Cal Ripken Jr signature hanging on my office wall and I had gotten comfortable with his newer signature, however I wanted to focus on his early signatures and I came across the OP photo's while comparing psa/jsa examples(don't have an in person). I kept comparing and felt like they were good so I took a low risk chance yesterday and bought them. I'm going to a show and PSA will be there, I'm planning on submitting them for authentication providing you and the folks here think it would be worth it. I don't have much money invested so if they turn out being fake then it's a small price to pay for knowledge. Thanks again

IMO, the top one is good (1980s signature) and I don't particularly care for the second one at all.

Can I piggy back off this thread and ask you about this one?

looks off imo

My autograph is question was picked up around 2004.

here's an example of his newer signature

Here is a upload of the full photo.... I'm hopeful that the fading effect is more camera issues rather than the photo, I'm seeing good color in areas of the photo. A look at the overall image may assist in getting a better look at the signature.
