Hi everybody,

I just found someone who is selling his 30-year-collection, which contains some high priced items. They all seem to be good, but weren't obtained in person or from a reputable dealer. That's why I would like to ask you for your help.

This Disney (1962) and Chaplin were obtained ttm. What do you think? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The Disney looks pretty good. I would have Phil Sears take a look to be sure.

Hi KaiMi  -  The Disney is very elaborate.  I wonder about him signing ttm in pencil....more difficult to access the age of the signature than ink.  I don't see the "l" in "Walt" and the "t" is thin.  Is that pebble texture paper? It can allow for less accuracy and the ability to start and stop in drawing with less detection. As Joe suggests, might be worth your while to have Phil Sears look at it.

I'm attaching two samples of Chaplin "Best Wishes" notes.  They are a few decades apart but both fairly consistent.  The first is from an album page and the second ttm.  Notice how the handwriting rises a bit diagonally left to right.  The "B" in "Best" is capitalized. The "T" and "W" of "Best" and "Wishes" have connection.  The name itself is closer to his style than the salutation.  Maybe others will share thoughts.

I am not that taken with the Disney sig, -  it looks very slowly written and as Etienne points out its difficult to see signs of age so be sure to get Phil Sears opin before buying

Etienne, you hit the nail on the head about this Chaplin especially about the salutation. I personally don’t like this autograph and would  steer clear as there is too much doubt. I think someone tried their best to copy his autograph, IMO.

Lots of thanks to you all!

The Disney has the original envelope with it, so it seems to have come from the studio. What concerns me about it is the written note of the guy who claims to have gotten it originally - he is said to be american, but the orthography and grammar seems to be too poor for that.

I remember seeing here on AL that there were proxies signing for Disney ttm and that experts can even tell you who it was based on the style.  Again, I find it odd that a ttm autograph would be in pencil.  You could allow for that as a vintage in person...but not so much ttm.

There ar some very nice ones in charcoal. Disney sent a drawing to the 1939 New York World's Fair and I recall it was jet black charcoal.

Disney did have artists sign for him TTM. Personally, when it comes to Disney, I would not own one that Phil Sears doesn't authenticate. He does quick opinions. And he used to give free opinions to collectors who already own one.  His certificate is the gold standard.

+1

No address? Stamp? Glued down?

I am not sold on Chaplin, I don't know Disney's signature well enough to give opinion
