Absolutely correct. The source is the most important factor when trying to establish the authenticity of an autograph. I've seen some very good examples of autographs from very suspect sources and I've seen tons of suspect autographs from reliable sources.
The two examples have been signed by the same person. Steve Krykin gave the thumbs up to the second example.
To test your experience on EC autographs. What do you make of these:
As you can see, it's not an easy task, especially if your not very familiar with his signature.
