Here is a 'signed' photograph of Frank Sinatra in fountain pen that is coming up soon at auction.  I'm interested in what members think.   For comparison, I'm also attaching an album page that Bonhams sold at one point.  I personally don't believe the photo signature is real.  To me at least, the photo signature looks like a flawed attempt (nice placement on the drum though!).

That looks authentic to me. Everything appears there and in the right way for the year. Perhaps rushed, but all the relations and negative spaces appear to interact correctly. The "Fra", the form, negative spaces and spatial relations of the "k" and "S", the suggestion of the "a" being equidistant between the "n" and the "t", and all of that working in unison. To me, the exemplar you showed, that rather spiral "F", is a bit atypical.

The evidence of speed and then slowing down occurs in the same place in both examples you posted as well.

Interesting points.....Thanks for looking!

Sure. I do see some spiral "F's" like the exemplar you posted appearing in '65 and but they seem in the minority.

The Bonhams album page is from a 1966 encounter with him.   Interestingly, the publicity photo is from 1955.   In theory,  it could have been signed later (but I kind of doubt it).

Yes, it is in the file title. I'm curious what others see with this OP.

It is possible the photo, which is to me the most curious part, might also be a 1960's enthusiast print which were being produced of these stars.

p.s. I wouldn't feel comfortable having or selling the photo....but that's me.  I tried to find an example (Bonhams album page) as close as possible to the photo.  Perhaps the photo 'signer' did the same effort?  Still, they did carefully line up that signature quite well on the drum!

I would be careful buying from  the auction house which is offering this . I dont like the one you  are thinking about buying.  The placemnt on the drum also seems ttoo good to be true. . Maybe look for a nicer example with more definition

Hi michelle  -  I was hoping you might see this and jump in...and you know the auction house as well!  I'm actually not even remotely thinking of buying it...but a good warning nonetheless!

p.s.  Have a look, if you will, at the Brando I posted below originating from this same 'French gentleman's collection'.

For context, here is Marlon Brando restrike photo that came from the same collection as the Sinatra photo.  Possibly same pen?

I don't think it is the same hand anyway - the Sinatra is far more successful. For me, if the OP has problems re source then all bets off without regard to the signature. Why not mention the sketchy source?
