Hi, no this is a reprint of the original. The original was in light blue ink.

Jim Hutton showed us this item over 25 years ago. It's possible within that time I might have strewed the ink color in my mind, but I really doubt it. I do recall thinking it was a very unique shade of blue. However, a certain scammer has offered this very same letter for sale in the last few months. His go-to method is reprinting and replicating Freddie items. Looking at this piece, the ink seems too dark to be original. The one Jim showed me was a lighter blue. I know the letter was sold to someone years ago, but my gut still says this is a reprint. Unless it has a solid provenance that can be traced back to Jim himself (and I do know who owned it at one point), I wouldn't trust it. Please private message me with futher details, friend.

The answer appears in your images for one thing. It is a print as noted; click for full image and in negative. Look at the ink deposits. In time you will develop an eye for reading the surfaces of ink and paper - sometimes through a really good proper scan. In hand is always preferred. Here we can see the ink is deposited unnaturally just from the unaltered scans you posted.

Greatly appreciated, Eric! Looks like the old gut was right. PS I hope you're back in good spirits (I saw your post a while back about needing to step away). Hope all is well
