Some of you may be familiar with the recent Limited Edition boxed set that Roger Waters released of The Wall. The set, limited to 1500 copies, was constructed into "The Wall" and then the covers were hand painted across the front by a famous graffiti artist. They then took "The Wall" down and Roger Waters hand signed each copy and it was sold for $500. No one set is like another as each piece has a different piece of the painted mural. It was a very nice set, very heavy, with 4 vinyl, 4 CD's a blue ray and a leather bound book. A typical super deluxe set with some extras in the original artwork and Roger's signature.

I purchased a copy of the set last October and after many months, it arrived in early May this year. Here's where the fun started. Low and behold, I guess Roger isn't a fan of signing his name 1500 times. So instead, he decided to have a little fun with it and elected to only sign some of the boxes with his own name and signed many of the others with other artists. For example, he signed some of the boxes "Love Jimmy Smith". Apparently Jimmy Smith is a lesser known blues artist. Here is an article regarding this debacle

There is much debate over if the special signatures he did will have more value or less value and the general consensus from the discussions seems to be "it depends". While someone would probably value a Roger Waters autograph from Roger Waters more then his pen of "Jimmy Smith", if he decided to sign it "Love, Pink" or "Love, David Gilmour", that might be a different story.

When my set arrived, it was signed "Love Brazil". I was furious, as the only reason I paid the $500 was to get a legit Roger Waters autograph. My set also was missing one of the poster inserts of the painted mural, so I filed a complaint with the record company who agreed to send me a replacement. After a few months of waiting, I finally received my copy last week. And what was this one signed, of course.... "Love, David" with the "David" crossed out. I have attached a picture.

I'd love to get people's opinion on this. Have I stumbled on a rare Roger Waters signature that may be extremely valuable and one of a kind? Or is this laughable? I plan on listing it on Ebay with a buy it now at a ridiculous price and best offers to see what its value might be.

It's ridiculous who wants a Waters sig, that says love David.

No thanks, not worth $500 to me, but I could understand how someone could enjoy it I guess. Still, that much money for something hard to display...I would have been ticked!

I don't go much for first name only signatures even when it's the signer's actual first name.

What a cluster. Its a shame,a few people actually got a nice sketch but many got the nonsensical stuff.

Didn't get what you paid for. Pure and simple. Total disrespect to his fans in my opinion.

Well, its a notch above spitting. No?

Eric.

At $500 a pop it's close. Just because you are a big time musician does not give you the right to not fulfill a commitment just because you are trying to be funny, or bored, or could care less. None of us would be away with that kind of action or attitude. Bad Karma.

Waters being an a-hole. Period.

What if he signed it "Pink"?

Eric

Nope. Add "Pink" is fine as long as he signs his autograph. That is what is being sold. Honor is important no matter who you are.

James mccartney is another dill.

And all those celebs who scribble without even trying to sign anything close to their name. I would rather they just say "no".
