I won this on EBay and I can't decide if I want to spend the money to get it authenticated. Any and every opinion helps. Thanks!

Don't waste money on a COA

This is absolutely 100% FAKE !!!

A real Monroe is worth a couple grand right out of the gate

btw... how did you win this?

Ugh..as much as I hate to hear it, I appreciate the honesty. This woman came into a bunch of classic hollywood autographs, said she didn't know the history of them. About a dozen of them were written out to "Sharon", including this one. She also had one from Joan Crawford, I have one as well and knew the signatures were identical so I figured I'd take the chance on the Marilyn Monroe one and was the winning bidder at $381.

I'm sorry to hear that Monica

You can hopefully start refund proceedings

If you don't know how... there are folks here to help

Thank you, but I knew what I was getting into, she did say she was selling it as is.

There are ways to get your money back on an "as is" sale if you wish to try.

"As-is" terms are not a defense against something that is not genuine. If it was advertised as authentic, then you can get a refund. Paypal will side with you.

+1

I have been told that the Ma and the Mo are always connected.

Not always true

There is a MM forum here with many Legit exemplars

Have a look for yourself

Hi Monica,

This looks like one signed by an employee of the movie studio (they're called secretarial autographs).

It was (and still is) very common for fans to write asking for signed photos, but most stars couldn't handle the number they'd get, so the studio would have employees sign them and answer letters.

They have little value, this one maybe $25-$50 because it's Marilyn.

Steve Zarelli is right. Tell the seller about it, send her a link to this discussion if you'd like, but call PayPal so they can walk you through the return and refund process by phone.

You should be fine.

"AS IS", or any type of other language that equates, "Like it or lump it" does not stand as a condition of any ebay sale, paypal payment, or credit card payment. Items bought remotely, through the mail, or other, are always subject to buyer review, refusal, and return, whether the seller is willing to honor a return or not. If not, once you start a claim using "item not as described", in this case the item being represented as an authentic Marilyn Monroe signed signature, Paypal will suspend your money in the seller's account and remedy the matter themselves, releasing those suspended funds back to your account once tracking shows the return has been completed. These mechanisms are in place to protect a buyer from fraud, even if the seller uses "as is", or other synonymous language as a condition of sale, that condition not in compliance with Paypal's user regulations that a buyer agrees to when signing up or renewing.
