Is upgrading to a PSA Full Letter worth it if I already have a PSA COA?

Hi all,

A lot of recent talk in regards to fake PSA stickers/COAs has got me a bit worried for items I have in my current collection. I bought them off eBay with the PSA sticker/COA as assurance. It got me thinking, is it actually worth it to send these items in to the PSA to essentially certify the certification and receive a full letter upgrade? Resale value isn't a factor for me, it's more just for my own assurance. I'm considering it, but a part of me is uncomfortable taking the risk of the item getting lost, stolen or damaged in the mail for a step that 99% of other collectors probably wouldn't take. What do you guys think about this? See attached for one of the items I am considering doing this for (signed by the actress Katheryn Winnick).

If your certification number is the same thing you have purchased, you are good to go. You don't need a full later upgrade. I personally will not send anything thru the mail to get certified. In my case the major 3rd party authenticators attend events close by, so I can take my items in person and wait a couple of hours and take my items home and then wait 3 weeks for the LOA. The lesser valued items get the stickers and little cards. I always tell the authenticators to put the stickers on the back of the items.

Absolutely not necessary to obtain the full blown LOA. I also would be reluctant sending them by mail etc.

By the way love Katheryn Winnick performance in vikings. A top notch actresse. Is she a friend?

This seems to be good advice, David.  Another question: How about the auction houses that note  that the item you are bidding on has been pre-certified by a given TPA? If you know that the item you are bidding on has the seal of approval of a given TPA, is there any reason to pay up to $150 for a full LOA? Is there a lesser fee for a simple certificate?

I would only ensure that you check the relevant stickers/hologram are genuine by contacting the relevant issuer etc. I have encountered a few auctions that refuse to show the sticker until you win the auction. Bizarre!

LOA are really only needed for expensive items. Stickers/hologram on smaller priced items are just fine.

Thanks for the advice! I don't know her personally, but I have met her at at fan event and taken some photos with her. I have around 5-6 signed items from her and some other really cool Lagertha stuff such as her screen-used wedding dress and crown from when she was queen.

I doubt that the certification is fake. The fake certs and stickers are associated with more expensive names. In this case, I would suggest asking for opinions of the signature rather than sending it to PSA.

It should not be necessary to upgrade your autographs to LOAs.  Not even for peace of mind.  I prefer LOAs for items that I do not want a sticker affixed to.  Otherwise, the stickers do not bother me, and the COAs are sufficient.
