James Stewart Autographs: Which are Genuine, Autopens or Forgeries?

Isn't this an Autopen signature?

Steve.....

I do not know if he used a secretary or not.

From what I know the autopen came into play after he had his stroke.

I do know that the signature does not match the known published exemplars of an authentic James Stewart Signature.

It doesn't match my in-person's.

Maybe Rolf  or a hardcore Stewart Collector can tell us more on whether he did or not.

Dealers like James Camner, Steve Raab, Kenneth Rendell, Markus Brandes, Rolf  Ramseier,

Neale Lanigan and of course the late Charles Hamilton are the only dealers I would trust with that type of information

Thanks, Bob.

From what I understand, He was responding to his mail until he got very ill. There were secretarial signed photographs. After that, then they sent out letters to autograph seekers basically saying Mr. Stewart would not be answering autograph request due to health concerns. As you can see in my pictures, I was fortunate to be the recipient of several signed items from 1987 until about two years before his illness. Those pieces will always be in my collection. I have the form letter that states he would not be signing anymore. I'll post it when I dig it out of storage.
Bob I heard that the autopen was only used for a book- no photos.
The B&W photo above is definitely autopen. Usually this pose. An eBay search will reveal several different copies with the same AP signature.

Steve,

Please clarify for readers who may not understand your tongue-in-cheek reply. ;)

You need to get smilies. :-)
I was just kidding about offering $5. It looks okay to me.
Ha...maybe I'm as dumb as some say I am.

Somehow the above doesn't appear to be an original as denoted by this one signed by Stewart (p.s. that is his hand).

In the bottom one he takss his hands off the signature to cross both T's.

I have always thought the Harvey drawings were a great value and very exhibitable...obviously if real. They crossover from comic art to Hollywood .
Besides being on security paper and having a hologram, my certs have the item photoed on the reverse. They cannot effectively be altered.
