Here is one of the signatures that Mark Roberts received after JLL was "called out." Would you mind showing what differentiates it from the earlier TTM signatures that were deemed secretarial?

Also, can you address the situation with the two different styles of “E” that I mentioned earlier in the discussion? Both styles are clearly present in the above signature. Both styles of “E” are also present in the book signatures in the same random manner associated with JLL’s signing habits.

Here is the one Mark Roberts got back the first time. It is clear to my eyes that these two items were signed by different people. The formation of every single letter is clearly different.

I don't want to rehash the TTM discussion, but this signature is consistent with an in-person signature from 2002. Of course, the person who obtained that signature was accused of being a liar.

Agreed - EVERYONE keep up the good work!

This site has helped me in so many ways and I find it a great source to go to on a daily basis.

I agree totally Mark! I have learned so much since I have been on this site. The level of knowledge is incredible.

Good positive comments, guys.

While we may at times agree to disagree, reasonable people can do that while remaining civil and treating others with respect and decency. Keep up the great work!

Very interesting stuff folks. The thing that bugs me the most about this is that fact that he is charging a premium for his "autograph" that isn't even his. If the "autographed" version of his book was the same price as a normal non-auto version I would have no problem with him using a "ghost-signer". (Other than it being really frustrating, but it's not COSTING you anything...).

Same with TTM especially, tons of Celebs/Athletes have people sign their mail for them and shove it back in an envelope to send back. If it's free, this is what you're stuck with. However, when you start accepting money ($100!) this changes it into FRAUD IMHO!

If you go out to eat and order a $100 steak, it better be a damn good steak. If you go to a place giving away free steaks, it doesn't really matter how good it is, it was free. If it's good, you're happy. If it's bad, whatever it was free. Now imagine paying $100 for a steak, but a turd sorta shaped like a steak shows up on your plate. That is essentially what has happened to everyone buying these "autographed" books... LOL.

If you believe they are real like some do then you got a good steak.

LOL Ryan you never disappoint.

funny...

Ryan, I believe the autographed version of the book was only the cover price in NYC but someone was charging a premium in Memphis for that event. I'm not sure if anything else was supposed to be included in the Memphis price.

Regarding the TTM, I can't speak to who or how many use ghost signers. I agree if it is free you get what you pay for. Jerry Lee charges and signs his ttm himself. There are a few ttm pieces that have come back but most people seem to agree that the majority of the ttm signatures are provably good. In short, it would be fraud if they charged and didn't deliver what was offered. I think they do deliver what they offer.

I think I just developed a new rule to live by. Always smell your steak before taking the first bite.

The Memphis event was to be a talk by Rick Bragg & JLL, then a short concert by JLL.  Tickets to the event were $32 and up, and if you wanted a signed book that would be an additional $100 with the book being pre-signed by JLL and signed at the event by Bragg.  Because I was to be out of town that Friday I asked at the box office if I could order a book without going to the event.  They said I had to purchase a ticket to then order the book, that I could buy the cheapest ticket & they could hold the book for me at he box office until my return.  As it turned out JLL didn't make the event, at the last minute he said he had some sort of virus:
