Are they using PSA Facts Pages? How can this be?

The cert number shows a photo of this letter - this is very disturbing.

It is disturbing.  But it is not surprising to me.  Even the webpage THE CONCLUDING CHAPTER OF CRAWFORD (which is otherwise a great resource) includes this style from her own hand.

Authentic and secretarial from The Cead:

The OP ACOA Certified "Crawford":

While not that exact letter I received a secretarial signed letter as a gift.  That was just like this one.  I did not know Crawford well and my friend Joe W. told me it was secretarial.  Thankfully, my friend was able to return it.  In my opinion it is Betty Barker her longtime personal assistant from 1955 until Crawford's death.  There are probably hundreds of these letters out there all signed by the same hand.  Here are ones from Worthpoint for 1957-1961-1962-1964-1970 and 1974.  Sorry for poor quality.

It isn’t quite as disturbing as it is with other TPAs. ACOA will actually communicate with you, and they’re open to retracting a cert.

That is great to know.  Every TPA has passed secretarial signatures, so ACOA is certainly not alone.  It would be wonderful to have a TPA that own up to honest mistakes.  That makes me much more comfortable.  I know they have some top people including my friend Steve Zarelli.  Mr. Steffman used to be a regular, and welcome poster here.

Very true. PSA, Beckett and JSA have each authenticated one or more Neil Aspinall Beatles secretarials, but I wouldn’t bother making them aware if it. Beckett doesn’t even respond.

So up to 10 people saw this Betty Barker secretarial as authentic and JS agreed? And this "authentication" cost $75?!

That is 3 times what PSA charges!

Eric -  Who is JS and how do you know 10 people have agreed on it?   Did you mean to type JSA?

Hi Eddy,

JS=Justin Steffman and that is what ACOA states on their website:

"Each autograph submitted is analyzed by up to 10 authenticators from ACOA. Our expert team has decades of combined experience in music and celebrity autographs and have obtaining hundreds of thousands of in person autographs from the 1980s through present day."

"Verify the authenticity of Joan Crawford autographs without spending a small fortune. Authentication for Joan Crawford starts as low as $75.00. We take pride in being both the best and the most affordable authentication service for Joan Crawford."

Since they charge considerably more what PSA charges ($25 to $45) I don't see how they can claim they are the "most affordable."

Thanks for clarifying that.
