I received a signed photo of John Glenn through the mail 10 years ago or so, but its inscribed to me with what looks like pressed on letters, anyone else get one like that?   The photo has NASA printed on the back with a hand printed  RS 57 at the bottom. What was the deal?

Can you scan and upload an image? I moved  your discussion to Space Autographs, BTW.
Sure, here's a photo of it.

Sen Glenn gladly signs  thru the mail if sent to him, I sent a copy of his book and he inscribed it for me,  I sent it to him at the university where did you ask for the autograph thru NASA or elsewhere?

Your Glenn signature is authentic. He just pre-signs a stack of these photos in advance. When an autograph request comes in, the secretaries print the name on the photo of the person who is receiving the item. (Glenn is pretty consistent about making sure most signatures he sends out are personalized.) If you want something that Glenn personalizes to you in his own hand, you have to send in your own item for signing.

thanks for the information, that explains the weird inscription. by chance do you have a good address for him now?  I have some FDC's that I'd like to send him.

Autograph requests should be sent to him via The John Glenn School of Public Affairs (formerly The John Glenn Institute). His address, and addresses of other astronauts are provided here:

Glenn usually signs one item per person, though he may sometimes sign two (especially if they are personalized to different people).

thank you.

Back in 2009, I sent Mr. Glenn 2 first day covers to be signed, and I received it 4 months later with an authentic signature. However, he only signed one out of the 2 covers. I don't complain.

I heard from a collector in India that they keep records and its strictly one each.
I think its awesome that someone so famous still signs their requests.
I have had a number of successes with Glenn through the mail over the years and never had a request rejected. I suspect that the policy is ONE autograph per mailed in request.
I sent him a Project Mercury Stamp First Day cover several years ago and he signed it and sent it back, took about a month.  About 6 months later I happened to go to D.C. on business and I went to his Senate office and got to meet him briefly.  I thanked him for signing the item and sending it back and he told me he was happy to try and honor autograph requests when possible.
